I don't think people are lying when they say there are girls that throw quite a bit harder than what you posted at those ages. We played the Beverly Bandits 10u team last fall. They have a girl that was throwing a consistent 52-54 mph and another that is throwing 50-51 mph. When you get to big tournaments like PGF Nationals it will be pretty common to see 50 mph pitchers at the 10u level.

If I remember correctly last year at 10u PGF Nationals there was a girl throwing high 50's and may have been hitting 60 mph. Not saying it is common but there are some very hard throwing girls at 10u here and there.

To the O.P. I believe you daughter is doing pretty darn well in terms of speed, especially considering she has only been pitching 8 months. From what you stated she is really gaining speed quickly. Keep up the hard work, and good luck.

Fair enough...then I want to meet those catchers...not the pitchers...

I have a 10U pitcher...comes in Friday night with older sister and dad (pitcher has been with me for over a year but sis hasn't caught for her in a year since going away to college). Sis is a D2 first baseman who is very athletic with a great glove...was terrified once Morgan started throwing full...Morgan throws 47 mph. With her advanced leg drive mechanics, she is releasing the ball from about 29'. In baseball terms, she is throwing high 80's

Come to my facility, I'll set my Atec at 60 mph from 30' and ask you to catch the ball...that's like a baseball pitchers throwing 120 MPH...B U L L O N E Y

Note: you would have to sign the death waiver to do this

When someone ask "how fast does your daughter pitches?" The answer would always be the fastest she has thrown at practice +3 miles. Game speed will be much lower. Also just because a kid is throwing 62 MPH at 12 dosen't mean she will throw 74 when she is 18, increase in speed is not linear. I have seen girls throw 55 MPH in 10U but their speed dropped down when they had to move to 12U. I am a softball junkie and watch pretty much all the games on ESPN app and average college pitchers pitch between 61-65 MPH. You will have a Paige Lowrey or Barnhill here and there but 90% of the pitchers operate at this speed range.

Yes, I think there’s a lot hitting 60 in practice. I’m assuming on the 12 yo’s because I’ve seen so many do it at 13. DD’s first TB program had a very good PC who routinely had first year 14U’s reaching 60. By “plenty” I’m referring to the country. There’s only a few in this area every year.

Nice job by your Longhorns today. DD got roughed up pretty good.

Wow, either our guns in Michigan are slow or our pitching is way behind. There isn't a pitcher in the state throwing 60 at 12u. We have played the best teams in OH and IN, there may be 1 throwing 60 and we played her and would put her at 55 tops. Also our high schools would love to have pitchers coming in as freshmen throwing 60. We have one that is pitching D1 next year throwing 63 and she throws harder than all but 1 girl (but with more accuracy) in the district.

Sounds like she's doing great. My 11yr dd plays basketball and rec softball. She has been doing 2 1hr general workouts a week that
I believe has been the best thing we've ever done. In the winter she will work with a basketball trainer and in the summer we
try and visit a softball trainer from time to time. My girl is stronger than ever this year and definitely firmed up from the workouts.
We just try to have fun but compete the best she can. Rec ball she looked strong last year. Pitched mid 30s prett easy.
This year she said her coach clocked her at a open gym in low 40s , 12 inch ball. I'd say she will be mid 40s this summer.
I think the workouts will continue as she enjoys it and I have seen her grow from it.

Saw a lot of 12U A ball PGF tournaments, qualifiers, etc. in NorCal and SoCal last year. I don’t think I saw one kid over 57 and that was rare. Most were 49-54. If you can locate you will be successful, and if you can also make it move you can dominate.

DD is now 1st year 14U and 60mph is rare (PGF Cali). Maybe when the ‘03 teams start playing it will be more common .

My DD is 54-56mph when she’s going good in games, she was 50-52 in 12U second year. Also, I found that my DD throws harder in games than practice FWIW.

I’ve heard some crazy numbers and sometimes I think the gun picked up the bat or exit speed of the ball. Hitting a number during walkthroughs at practice do not count, if you can do it fairly consistently during games then ok.

DD participated in the NFCA Academic Camp during the summer of 2017. I just reviewed the combine report. There was a total of 54 pitchers in attendance from 11 states. This included 3 from California (2 of them were from the So Cal Athletics) and 2 from Florida (both from the Gold Coast Hurricanes). Most of the campers were from the Middle Atlantic and Northeast states -- from Virginia north and east to Massachusetts and Connecticut. These were mostly 2018's and 2019's with just a few 2020's. DD's best pitch speed on that particular day was 56. Only 22 of the 54 pitchers threw faster than 56, and only 6 hit 60 or better, with the top speed hitting 65. Most of the pitchers were between 53 and 57. DD's pitching coach has claimed that she hit 60 once at a practice, but I have never witnessed it. The fastest I have personally seen her pitch is 58 but she is typically around 55/56. DD's best spin rate at the camp was 22.1 (this was the only time she has ever had her spin measured). Only 6 girls out of the 54 had higher spin rates with one hitting 29.3. Most of the spin rates were between 16 and 19.

Here is the link from last year about a 10u pitchers at PGF Nationals.

This happens every year at 10u PGF Nationals. Just because you don't personally have a girl pitching mid 50's does not mean that girls throwing that hard are unicorns. It is rare to for a child at that age to throw that hard but it does happen.
