ASA rules: ball in glove?

When my DD pitches, she steps onto the rubber with her hands apart, but the ball in her glove. She brings her hands together, adjusts her grip in the glove, pauses, pitches. I *think* this is legal. This weekend a (rather obnoxious) mom told me repeatedly she was pitching illegally because the ball has to be in her hand, not her glove. She said when her DD's team played an ASA tournament they kept getting called on it. I swear I've looked this up before and the ball can be either in your hand OR your glove, your hands just have to be separated. Now I can't find this for sure. Anybody got the ASA rules and know for sure? We're playing ASA this weekend and I'd like to have the rule handy if they say anything. And if I'm wrong, obviously we want to fix that.

ASA RULE 6A 1A. Pitcher must have hands separated and must have the ball in EITHER the glove or pitching hand. You were correct

This comes from the "presenting the ball mythology". Had a coach try to pull this stunt on DD a couple weeks ago. She's pitched for 5 years in every sanction in GA. He actually managed to talk the plate ump into agreeing with him. I had to call time and essentially demand that he consult with the field ump who I knew would know the rules. Don't start mouthing off about someone else's pitcher when you don't know the rules! Didn't help him because he basically poked the bear. They had bases loaded and nobody out but after making her angry, they quickly went down 1-2-3 and the game was over.

DD's coach encourages the pitchers to approach the pitching plate with the hands separated with the ball in the glove.

1. He doesn't want a pitcher to tip her pitch by purposefully or inadvertently getting her grip in open view.
2. He doesn't want the hitter to see the ball until its coming towards them. Hide the ball as much as possible.

What there pitcher "may" have been doing is starting with the ball in the glove, taking it out with the hand and then going back to the glove with it. Hand and glove may only come together once. Sounds like the mom was definitely confused on whatever was being called.

I was thinking either that or quick pitching. A lot of girls seem to do that at this age.

That Mama was real brave to tell you something like that over and over. Has she not figured out that most pitcher's parents are crazy and we can go off the deep end at any moment?

LOL! That's kind of what I was thinking.
