Early gather. Josh Donaldson called this early action as his rhythm and the stride forward as his timing.

Dancing with the pitcher requires rhythm and timing. The best mechanics in the world won't help, if you can't dance. Think tra la la booms away. Same with pitching too.

What's interesting to me is that he gets started with load and leg left before the ball leaves the pitcher's hand even in this slow toss situation. This is a very important mechanic to learn and to teach and very difficult to change once a hitter gets in the habit of waiting to see the ball before making any 'move' -- it is the reason why fast pitching weeds out many hitters (and why for others fast pitching is no big deal).

This is true. However if you start early like you should you have to make sure your move out is controlled and "slow". My DD started too late for a long time and had to "move out" fast to catch up to anything. Now I have
been able to get her to start earlier but she still has the same speed with her move out at times which is no better than starting too late..

Is he coiling by going forward or is he coiling and then striding forward? HE or SHE?

I know the question was not to me , but my DD was of the later and in process of correcting. I didn't notice it until I saw Justin Stone vid. Doing it thru drills. She doesn't need to know everything. She is 10.
