The differences in barrel path and HPP stand out when compared to Kent...

Ward teaches an elbow down swing and you can see that in OSU swing. Also, teaches balance in the middle. The question is for Ink would he have had a better pro career if he hadn't of changed. I think he would have for some of the same reason you guys have posted. I think he would have hit for a higher average and struck out less. He would have hit 430 foot home runs instead of 500 foot home runs. Just my opinion. I don't like either swing really.

It's not a release. In Williams/Bonds clips the hands are going back to arrest the forward move of the rear leg which leads to a contraction of muscles on the rear edge of your torso from your scap to your hip. This is the timing you are looking for. To get to that place in time where your hands are connected to the rear hip when you launch. The rear side opens the front side. The front leg reacts to the action of the rear leg and back.

Kinsler and Cruz are guys that connect early.

Will Clark rode the rear leg and pulled back.

Agree, it's not a release move with Rich's movement pattern.. The hands going back (I call it barrel un-tipping) to arrest the forward momentum needs to be a result.. The movement needs to be dynamic until the swing happens.. One should not have a goal of pulling back to rescue forward momentum.. That is exactly why Rich basically does the splits with his off-speed demo compared to Bonds falling into his legs.. Pulling back as a goal to remove slack will run out of range of motion.. Whipping the barrel needs to be dynamic without stalling (stopping then starting)..

There is no room for adjusting dynamically to a pitch with a goal of pulling back.

Pete Inc. was drafted and went straight to the pros. Hit 30 home runs as a rookie. Pitchers learned how to pitch him or he changed his swing after that.

You make it sound like you have 5 minutes with the ball coming at you.

I agree that the movement needs to be dynamic until the swing happens.

Still, for many young developing hitters this motion isn't natural. How do you go about making it natural for them?

Rich is doing a split as you say because he is trying to show the movement in slower motion. He is not swinging at a pitch in the reaction time needed.
