here is what I mean. JD basically does turn the knob to the camera (barrel turns down to the dugout behind him perpendicular to the shoulders) but the ribcage also starts to turn which pulls that pivot point in a way that turns the down arc of the barrel more towards the catcher. but the barrel still goes downward roughly perpendicular to the shoulders.

I think what makes JD different from the DBSF kids is that he times that turn well. he doesnt turn too early so that he would loose stretch but he also doesn't flatten then turn like many DBSF kids. basically his knob turns close to his rear delt like it would try to shave hairs from it and the body then turns that pivot point. I think his turn almost is more of a direction source than a power source. the barrel is just turned down (knob up) and the trunk turn lines that downward turn up with the line of the pitch.
