AnnasDad,

Going to be looking for a new infielders glove for my DD. She Is 9 and plays rec ball right now but this year she Is finally going to be old enough to try out for the local middle school team If she doesn't make a travel ball team. Her primary position Is second base. She plays some shortstop when the situation arises. I dont want to spend an ungodly amount because shes only 9. Her current glove was a fairly cheap LS Xeno, basket design, 12", velcro strap that she likes, but wouldn't be a deal breaker. Id like to move her to more of a conventional web design for the infield and a little better quality. In the end Itll be her choice on the web design. I don't know why she Is hung up on the basket and she cant tell me why either. lol Any suggestions? Rawlings was my first choice but by all accounts you are the man to talk to.

Also would It hurt to move her down to an 11.75"? Shes starting to turn double plays with consistency and I want her to have a glove that will possibly help with the transition on the throw to first.

Hey Shawn, thanks for the kind words! It's true, I absolutely love Rawlings Heart of the Hide gloves, but at 9, there's no way I would ever recommend to you to buy your DD a high end glove like that. I think at her age, your best bet is to contact Drakemir and work up a deal on a Vinci glove. Whether it be a Fortus series, or a 22 series steerhide glove. Drakemir will set you on the right path!

And at 9, using an 11" ball, a 11.75" glove should be perfect for IF. Anna played first year 12U with a 12" ball using a LS Omaha 11.75" glove before Casedawg ordered us her first custom 12" Vinci.

Here's a couple of interesting 11.75" Rawlings straight off their site.
First one is a Liberty FP glove:
Rawlings Liberty Advanced 11.75 in Infield, Pitcher Glove

And a couple of 11.75" Gamer series baseball gloves
Rawlings Gamer 11.75 in Infield/Pitcher Glove
Rawlings Gamer 11.75 in Infield, Pitcher Glove

For 2B, I (me personally) would buy her a I-web or an H-web, again that's me! If she loves a basket web, nothing wrong with that either. Those Gamer series gloves are NOT HOH's! I have no idea how they would compare to a Vinci Fortus? She's 9, hopefully it'll break in easy, and if it only last a year, who cares. If she stays in this game, you'll be buying and experimenting with different equipment for years to come, trust me!!

Check out this 11.5" All-Star Vela 3-finger glove, it may be a little above her age?

I'm a glove junkie, ask me all the glove questions you feel like, but definitely hit up Drakemir before you make a purchase. And I know I've stated she's 9 several times in this post, at her age don't overthink it, there will be plenty of time to spend big money on a glove! Ask most anyone here!

Edit: This is a good deal...

Thank so much for your advice. I looked on the Vinci website and they dont make a Fortus or 22 series In an 11.75 with an H or I web. The closest thing they had was a Limited Series JV26 which Is $229. For that price range I might as well just get her a custom Liberty from Rawlings or a HOH for $249. The only other gloves on Vinci that she liked are all 11.5 which Is going to be on the small side of her preference. Im thinking I web Is going to be the route we take.

Mr Drakemir, you have any input you would like to add? Im always open to suggestions.

Yeah, I knew Vinci didn’t show an 11.75” in either series on their site, I’d still talk to Drakemir, maybe a custom option? Of the gloves I linked earlier, go to Justballgloves.com and look for them. You can buy 2,3, or 4 different gloves from them and return what you don’t like for a full refund. If I went that route, I’d at least try that All-Star!

Back on the dirt...
12" Vinci Fortus is smaller than the 12" Vinci Custom. DD used the heck out of her Fortus this past year. I think it could have gone longer but she wanted a new one for Christmas so I said ok :)
