I'd think you have some selection bias too. Some of the kids that ate talented enough for that high of a level probably really do have sports related jobs in mind. Coaching, recruiting etc.

I would amend this by stating get your DD on the best team she can play for. The rest I agree with.

Completely agree with that. I think as a pitchers parent you have to know the landscape and talent. If my DD tried out for a team and she was no better than the 4th pitcher I would never place her on that team.
