If you lose the ball in the sun, and this is what caused the ball to drop, it's a hit.
I don't see how you can say that.

Error= when player fails to convert an out on a play that an average fielder should have made. Fielders can also be given errors if they make a poor play that allows one or more runners to advance on the bases.

Losing the ball in the sun is a mistake by the fielder. Not a good job by the hitter. IMO right???

You are 100 percent right that it's not a good job by the hitter, but that's not the scoring rule. I personally think that scoring rules should be looked at, but
if you want to score correctly it's a hit. As china mentioned there are a lot of situations like that. It's even a hit if your RF is mad at her boyfriend and decides
not to move for a ball that's 5 feet from her. If you hit a gounder the pitcher and the 1B falls downs or doesn't cover 1st it's a hit.

If you applied that, then you'd be giving errors to really slow outfielders who gave 100 percent effort and simply couldn't quite get to the ball. Errors are not charged for lack of range.

Instead of 'average fielder,' you could substitute 'ordinary effort' and be a lot closer.

Once the sun gets in your eyes, it's no longer 'ordinary effort.'

Also, errors cannot be charged for mental mistakes. That is commonly misunderstood by scorers.

Fielders can also be given errors if they make a poor play that allows one or more runners to advance on the bases.

Agreed. Although again, a poor play is not necessarily an error.
