I seriously doubt that they would have a shot a Mendoza today. She would probably end up at a very good PAC 12 or SEC school. Yes, she is one person who played there back in the days of 40 feet, a white ball, when the current crop of college players were starting to read and write. Point is that it is a research school. It is definitely not known for churning out athletes. Maybe Allister will change that.

They do ok in football as well, a much harder sport to fill a roster full quality players, and women's basketball. In general I agree that schools with high academic standards have a more difficult time filling a roster with good players. However it is not impossible and just requires the right coach and a few good recruits to get the ball rolling. Getting a degree from Stanford can open a lot of doors...

The weather in CA >>> MN

Oh, you hit that on the head!
Considering I've lived in MN my whole life...here is our year's worth of weather.

5 months of Winter
1 month of Spring
5 months of Tourists/mosquitoes/woodticks
1 month of Fall

Repeat...:D

In case anyone was wondering, Stanford is tied for 1st place with 113 national team sport D1 championships. The school is more than a research institute...

I will admit they are very good in Tennis. But the vast majority of their championships are in what most would call obscure sports. Although they had that football championship back before WWII.

Other than coaching at her school another draw could be if she repeats the success of this year I can guarantee they will not travel for a regional.

Here is the list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_Cardinal

Most are not in what is consider a major/somewhat self sustaining sport.

Some still talk about the dominance of the PAC-12 in softball by pointing the many national championships by UCLA. Of course they have to go back 20 years before the SEC got in the game. :)
