My daughters timing at the plate is off. She is lunging at the balls and hitting ground balls. She is 9 playing 8U gold All Stars. How do I get her to stay back and hit line drives? Any drill or techniques you guys recommend? Thank you in advance

3 plate drill. I'll toss 5 front 5 middle 5 back then mix it up. Go 5 middle 5 back 5 front plate. Don't change speed of your front toss or full pitch. You let the distance of the plates take care of that. As for her hitting ground balls you might wanna check mechanics in slow mo or just post a video.

Assuming her problem is too much linear movement and not enough rotation:
Tee work: Hold bat between her back and arms and have her rotate hips to hit ball off tee... its a no step drill and requires weight to stay centered on inside legs

Also check your kids grip.. are her elbows in a natural reverse V or is that back elbow pointing straight at the backstop? Straight back elbow usually means a very strong grip and a high to low swing plane causing chopped ground balls.. have her loosen her grip and relax the hands to a natural reverse V

posting a video would actually help as there are many things that can cause the lunging... from hands being way too high to a huge overstep
