We had a similar call in the Senior League (U16) playoffs last year. the umpire (same ump for the whole best of 3 series) had decided going into the series who was going to win and his calls all went in favor of that team. we were in a do or die game after the officiating in the first game showed us the writing on the wall. it was a close game and we had a player get a hit and beat it out easily almost exactly like the video, and the umpire called her out, which set off the fireworks...

This was the final straw for the coach who walked off the field because he couldn't stand it anymore, but this was also the spark that started off the game winning rally! Parents who had sat quietly thru the first fiasco of a game started yelling and screaming at every questionable call. After the coach left the field, a player went out and took his place at the 3B coaches box and the team took over the game. What followed was a miracle comeback with the team fighting for every inch of ground and gaining. Because of the complaints received after the first game and the reports of the unruly crowd in this game, two league officials came and positioned themselves behind the backstop- all of a sudden the calls stopped being one-sided, we had a real game on our hands so the coach returned to 3B. we eventually won in extra innings. after this game, the league brought in two new umpires who called a good game 3 and we won handily.

I often wonder if things would've been different had the ump not blown that call at 1B.....

I looked through the posts and didn't see it, sorry you had to watch it again and type a response.
No problem. I recognized the URL, so I didn't watch it again. I posted the link to inform people of the other discussion in case they were interested. No skin off my nose either way...

I coached a really really fast high school team on year. The kind where routine grounders to shortstop were never outs unless they were hit really hard. I was coaching first base and we had an ump who anticipated the out calls on every routine grounder and made about 4 or 5 calls just like that one in the video. My dad was an umpire and I am always respectful, but I after the 4th time I, as politely as one can, said, "Our team is really fast you need to watch the whole play." The 5th time I again politely asked, "Can you tell me what you're looking at." I didn't approach him ever just asked as we were near each other, he finally told me, "If you ask me about a call again I'll have to eject you." That was the only time I was ever threatened with ejection.

The sad thing is we had to sweep the double header to be the first undefeated conference champs in 12 years. We lost that game 3-1 in ten innings when a girl hit a two run homer. Then we beat them 33-0 in the second game. Their coach told the reporter, "We played just well enough in the first game to piss them off for the second game."
