Such a bummer! I actually love watching DD play basketball - but she has probably suffered the most injuries while playing it. Last January she sustained a concussion after taking a charge and being thrown into a wall. She was out (of everything) for 6 weeks. She has also broken her pinky finger, jammed her middle finger and rolled her ankle on numerous occasions - actually she is in an ankle brace right now - but she is still playing. She would be broken hearted if she couldn't play...plus it keeps her so conditioned! (Well that and soccer...)

Good luck - and speedy healing vibes being sent your DD's way!

My dd played 6 seasons of basketball and 5 seasons of volleyball, and with only 1 sprained ankle that kept her out of 1 and a half basketball games during a camp. Pitched the next weekend with a sweedo on. She was fortunate I am sure, but you are more likely to get hurt in your own kitchen but it doesn't keep you from eating.

So sorry for Maddie! That just sucks. My DS broke his left ring finger at school recess right at the start of fall ball. He didn't tell us at first and went to practice and was just terrible -couldn't field, couldn't hit, was distracted the whole practice. I really lit into him on the ride home. The next morning I noticed him getting out of his bunk bed strange and realized pretty quickly from the bruising and swelling that the finger was broken.....no wonder he was terrible at practice! I may have felt like a bigger horse's rear end at that moment than any other time in my life, and there's plenty of competition!

My boy was out for four weeks. Felt like eternity at the time, but it went by quickly and he came back and did great. I know Maddie will as well.

Bummer Eric! Mine is skateboards, wave boards and football on a daily basis. Everyday I pray she doesn't get injured, but what the heck. Kids gotta have fun right?

Get well soon.

Uhhh.....no! They can't have fun! That's what softball is for! If they want to do anything else "fun", it's your JOB to stop them. This thread is living proof of that. As a matter of fact, I'm cancelling the uno game I have scheduled with DD this afternoon. :p

Basketball is the worst. We lost a kid to a broken finger and then another to a broken nose. Both basketball injuries sustained during pickup games with boys involved. Boys play basketball like football.

Sorry to hear it Eric, I hope Maddie recovers quick. Those finger injuries can be brutal! My twins, the Pitcher-Beast and the Catcher-Beast have settled in to BB being their primary "other" sport besides fastpitch after being forced to give up VB and lacrosse due to overlapping seasons. They love the game and are a blast to watch on the court...seems like the only other kid on the team who understands hustle and scrappiness (?) is another softballer. Knock on wood, so far the injuries have been minimal but honestly it seems like it's only a matter of time.

Sorry to hear that Eric, hope she heals fast. My DD plays Basketball in High school and she says she does it strictly for the cardio in the off season. Thats hard to argue with, by the end that kids in shape. But I know the real reason is she loves ruffing up players in the paint, last year in the final game after handing a team their first loss of the season the player she guarded took a swing at her in the high five line. It made my DDs season. But I hold my breath the entire time.
