EZ-Up Hold Down Methods/Tools

Crouching before motion
What advantage, or why do I see pitchers crouching on the rubber just prior to starting their pitching motion? It seems like a waste of energy and something that would hinder their performance the longer in a game or day or tourney that they have to pitch... ??? Thanks- cuervo1800
