Student warm up, Legal or illegal motion?

My 13yo dd saw one pitch and said.....(drumroll.......) "She's illegal."

    Coached a T-Ball Practice Yesterday

They are so adorable and enthusiastic. Some of my dh's best stories come from coaching t-ball. I loved the one about the little girl who had to go potty. He told her to go tell her mommy. She disappeared for about 5 minutes and came bounding back to my dh and excitedly announced, "I got to...

    Why don't teams hustle?

Brilliant! Coaches aren't there to be our dd's friends. They are there to teach them the game of softball and a bit about the game of life. You have to follow through or nothing you say holds an validity.

    Pre-motions; The 'Fireman's Ladder'

My heavens! I'd think that with all the effort it would take to get good at such a convoluted pre-motion, the pitcher would be better off spending that time and effort mastering each of her pitches (both a full speed and an off speed version of each) and a killer change-up. JMO

    Sacoriliac Joint pain causes

Coach, my dd is going through the same thing. She changed pitching coaches in March, and we found the her weight was too far back on her drag foot, slowing her down. She fixed the problem and gained a few mph, but she started having SI (sacroiliac) pain after pitching a gazillion innings in a...

    Age Cutoffs for Each Association

Nope, mine's a December b'day, and she has to play with kids that are sometimes 23 months older than she is. It was rough when she was little, but as she gets older, the difference is not as noticeable.

Who should call the pitches the coach, dad, or catcher?????

I know it's hard, but the catcher needs to learn to call pitches. The question is, "When do you stop calling pitches?" Are you still going to call her pitches at 14U, H.S., 18U Gold? I'm not even crazy about Coach calling pitches, but when Daddy calls them you give your daughter a lot of...

    Age Cutoffs for Each Association

The way it is stated in the rule book, you're correct, but I think we mean the same thing. I didn't explain it very well. Just want to make sure it's clear. Whatever the player's age on December 31st determines her eligibility for the upcoming year. For example, we have a player born January...

    Killing the Clock

I can live with all of those as "part of the game", but tying shoe laces drives me crazy! Some others: calling time to get water to your pitcher/cather on a very hot day (a lot of those around here) catcher/pitcher conference I know I've seen more. When time is a factor, using the clock to...

    Age Cutoffs for Each Association

I believe the cut-off dates are the same as ASA. I know they are the same for VTD. Whatever the child's age is on January 1st is the lowest age division in which she can play. For example, a girl born December of 1996 must play 14U because she was 13 on January 1st, thus making her inelegible...

A little pride for my girls!

Congratulations! I know you and the girls went home with smiles on your faces. Maybe the coach will ask how you did it. :)

3 of my students in serious car accident.

Amy, I'm so sorry to hear of this tragedy. I'll keep them all in my thoughts and prayers.

Tips for College Players Who Want to Coach

What are some do's and don'ts for college-age players or recent college grads who are getting into coaching? For younger teams, older teams, etc...? What are some pitfalls that they might fall into and what are the most important things to do/know?

    Tournament Weekend Observations:

Mine did this at our last tournament. I just bought a new bat 3 months ago. I flat out told her, "No!" Good thing her teammate doesn't mind if she continues to borrow it. :)

    Moving to 43'

Not necessarily her favorite, but it sure wasn't working this weekend. It drops great.....about 4 inches in front of the plate.

    Moving to 43'

My dd played up 16U this weekend and gave up more runs in this tournament than she had in the last 6 tournaments combined. She throws in the mid to upper 50's with good spin and movement and has been pretty successful at 14U. Once she got used to the distance, she was good about hitting her...

Should I let my daughter start pitching lessons?

Personally, I would go for it. Once you've had your shins dented a few times, and completed the requisite laps back and forth along the fence, we Crazy Bucket Moms/Dads who have been at this for a while will welcome you to PPA (Pitcher's Parent Anonymous). Maybe someone can come up with a...

    sore shoulder after pitching

With my dd, we talk about pain in two different ways. 1. My muscles are tired because I've pitched 15+ innings on one day 2. Something's not right, and it really hurts When she was younger she couldn't explain the difference, but she has learned that just like when you're working out your...

    Illegal pitchs-Florida/UCLA

Does anyone think that they are trying to be strict with the interpretation of the rules to make a point when the viewership is its largest?

    Fastpitch on grass infields?

If we know ahead of time, no way, no how, ever, ever, ever. It completely changes the dynamics of the game. Only in the outfield would we even consider it. A week is way too long. We play easily 7 games in 2 days on a regular basis. You might be alright pushing it to 3 days.
