Some ideas:
Champ or Chump: Girls get there bats, lids and gloves close by. They line up to take a hit off of a coach or machine. They get one swing; if they hit it fair, they go to the back of the line. If they miss or hit foul, they are a 'chump'. They are out of the line-up, but get...
Am looking for help on what size catching equipment to buy for a 12 year old. The sports stores in the local area do not have a good selection to try on and I would like to order some on-line.
She is ~59 inches tall and is average build.
Any comments appreciated.
Out of curiosity, what are the consequences for parents that break the parent/player code of conduct? We have a policy, but have never had to enforce it. I may need to soon though.
Thanks.
As the Fall season approaches, many organizations are getting ready to start new 'seasons' with new teams.
What are some of the things you include in your initial Coaches address to the parents. Expectations and such. What are your practice attendance policies and ramifications for example.
All,
Would like some input on holding a tryout for a 12U travel ball team. Does anyone have a good set of 'tests' that they have for the kids to go through that can show their abilities.
any thoughts welcome.
Had our catcher at 10U throw her mask off for a pop-up last year. Lost it in the sun, caught it with her right eye-socket... ouch. Keep 'em on unless you can't see. The Mizuno ones have a nice extended opening at the top to increase the visibility.
I need some good advice and techniques to instill discipline into a team of 11yos. At this age, I believe it is about fundamentals and also building the skills in those that are naturally rising, however, this is difficult to do unless there is good discipline.
What is a good way to instill...
I am currently building 2 pitchers on our team and have a third that is already 100% tournament ready. The other 2 are 75% there, but are progressing quickly. I would like some advice on how to rotate the pitchers to achieve the following goals:
1. Get the 2 @ 75% enough game experience to...
How did he actually do this? Just tell the parent to leave the field? I had a parent tick an ump off in the first inning and he almost called the game due to it. I did not hear who did it, but he actually was able to point her out.
thanks.
I have seen and used the heel drop vs. stride as well. I learned that from a hitting instructor for my daughter. Basically, he would watch their natural 'stride' and then instruct them to open their stance up to that position, staying balanced. The point was to take unneeded movement from the...
I videod all my girls hitting off the tee last weekend using my daughters Canon A480. Not sure the fps, but good enough for me to see their swing. I was able to see a lot more in slow motion than when they are hitting full speed in front of me.
I think one of the biggest mistakes my head coach (that I was assitant under) from last year was the way he communicated with the girls. He would constantly tell my daughter in left field to "BACK UP!!!". I could tell by the look on my daughters face that she was wondering if he meant a) move...
Great posts so far. Keep them coming, I'm sure everyone can benefit. I mainly wanted to focus on practice structure and have gotten a lot of good feedback.
I will throw in a few throwing drills that I like to do. After the girls have warmed up their arms, and are still paired up, I have...
I am looking for some good practice plans for a 12U travel team. I see a lot of examples on the board about bad practice plans (no plans, all the girls on the field with coach hitting, girls sitting idle, etc.) and I understand. I would like some examples of good practice plans for a two hour...
I believe keeping the hands inside the ball means instead of casting your hands outside the ball (and eventually bring them back in when making contact). When you keep your hands inside the ball, your hands will never go outside of the path of the pitch. If you cast your hands (start your...
