Thoughts on front toss - an open posting to all of the HS coaches out there

Westwind asked me to start a thread on front toss for BP and other thoughts: Here goes: Best advice I ever got was from Gerry Glasco. He said: “never stand 6-8 feet in front of the batter and whip it as fast as you can - worst thing you can do to the hitter”. Why? Because hitters don’t want...

Swinging with intent - increasing game bat speed

This is something I worked with my younger daughter on just a couple of weeks ago. Her coach measures bat speed and hers was low. Still hits the ball well but could really be driving it farther with a little more intent. So, I had her work at being more sudden - explosive - with her swing. This...

Would you let your DD use this ghost for playoffs

Looks like two cracks - horizontal - one feels a little raised and had a remnant of a ball stuck to it after she hit a homerun with it. She didn’t tell me for 3-4 weeks. Then casually mentioned it. I bought her another. But she complains it’s not as hot as this one. Would you let her keep...

9 Minutes Per Day - hitting routine - dev. by my 12 YO - Incorporating Glasco's Tips

If you are like me, you hate having to tell your DD to go practice hitting. After years struggling to make her go out in the garage, my 12 YO DD developed her own process. She went to a Gerry Glasco hitting camp this summer (he is our favorite hitting coach by far!) and learned a hitting...

    Improper Timeout Rule Change

In a recent game, I was coaching third base and turned around to notice that my runner on third had dropped to tie her shoe and the pitcher was about to deliver her pitch. I immediately called timeout to protect by baserunner. The pitcher stopped her motion. The umpire said that I should not...

Slight "down" swing to slight "up" swing

I made a tee addition the extends out from the tee towards the bownet and if she swings down after contact, she will hit the extension. If she swings level to up she will not hit the extension. This has helped but I wonder what everyone else is doing to promote a slight "up" as Donaldson would...

Top hand grip pressure - teach or no teach

how to go from slight "down" to slight "up" I made a tee addition the extends out from the tee towards the bownet and if she swings down after contact, she will hit the extension. If she swings level to up she will not hit the extension. This has helped but I wonder what everyone else is...

    Out in Front

My DD rarely stikes out but her contact has been spotty as she seems to be out in front too much. I believe it is her load - too early - she starts when the pitcher pulls the ball out of her glove and back into her motion. But this would not matter that much if she waited on the ball...I...
