Curious to hear others experience about traveling to practice. We currently drive about 2 hrs one way for practice. Saturday 10-1pm. On my DD's HS team, there are several players that travel pretty far for regular travel ball practice. One travels 6hrs one way each Saturday until they start playing tournaments, and a few travel 3 hrs/one way.

I saw a thread about How far of a drive to a tourney before you decide to fly? for tournaments.

What is the furthest you travel for practice?

Much less than an hour for regular team practices when on a local team.

Teams beyond that distance shouldn't regularly practice as a team - maybe once or twice a year (and should be 14U and older). They should be teams that meet for tournaments and individual players are responsible for their skills training locally.

When in HS, DD and on a team based 4 hours away, we got all the 'long distance' team players across multiple teams locally together and they practiced together during the week so they could get multi-player reps. Worked extremely well. Got a lot of quality reps in along with their private/individual lessons.

I got ridiculously lucky. When our coach plotted out all the team members and where they live, my house was kind of right in the middle. So practice is 10 minutes from our house. Some families drive 60-80 minutes to get to practice.

My daughter played on a team that practiced Saturday from 2-6 and Sunday from 8-12 before the fall travel season started. We did it for six weeks. It required a ferry ride and an overnight stay. In hindsight, it was a huge mistake, but the organization head required attendance for playing time.

Her new team has one organizational practice weekend on Memorial Day weekend that we will attend. Of course, it requires a flight, hotel, and rental car, so there's that expense...

Usually about 35min each way for practice 2x per week (but can be about 50 min if traffic is bad) - this is for a local/regional team. A few years ago we were considering a high profile team about 1hr 10min away. It would have been a good opportunity, but I'm so glad we didn't make that choice. Between dinner, homework, another child playing sports, business travel, etc., I don't see how I could have made it work. Really depends on your family's situation.

DD plays for a regional TB team, so all but 2 girls are "local". The others have a 1 - 1.5 hour drive to and from practice.

I personally wouldn't go much beyond the 1-1.5 hour drive for a team practice. Luckily, DD also feels this way....which is why we've never pursued a "National" program.

1 hour 15 minutes there and 35 minutes home due to traffic. 2 to 3x per week in season. Totally worth it though we drive by about 5 other viable teams on the way.

Local: I’m not going on more than an hour for my youngest. However fields are only about 10 mins away. It’s 10u.

My oldest is in her last year of travel. Plays on a regional team. They will usually practice once before the start of the season. It’s 2-3 hours away. It’s a 6-7 hour practice. They might hold a practice the day before a national tourney. But that will be coordinated before plane tickets are booked. Players are expected to work on their own.

We are about 45 minutes now for indoors but once daylight savings time hits it will be 5 minutes once a week and 25 once a week.

We actually have a great carpool so I only drive once a week instead of three times. It adds 30 minutes the day I drive to do carpool - but then I get two nights off driving.
