Positive and negative expectations add pressure to performance and distract athletes from the task at hand. The process of improving skills and executing those skills is a more constructive focus than expectation. Parents' unrealistic hopes for their young athletes can add fuel to the fire of pressure for their kids.

Your efforts? If this is about you, please rethink your approach to your child’s future. Hope she has fun, and everyone learns something along the way!

It's an interesting question, one that I'll be curious how many people will answer. Keeping in mind that there are parents of 10 yr olds who believe they have 9 pitches already, so there there's plenty of delusional people out there who could offer some interesting answers to the question in the subject line. I'm surprised "Pitch for Oklahoma" wasn't one of the options. Or "Win WCWS 4 straight years". If the answers weren't already listed as multiple choice, I bet there'd have been some very wild answers.

Always was her choice which was not one of the 7 options to pick.
I interpreted “Just have fun” to be her choice. She’s 12 years old, 4’7, and weighs 60 lbs. Not the genetic makeup you see in a lot of pitchers her age, but thanks to Hillhouse’s DVDs and help from the forum she has her fun pitching in rec. She could tell me she wants to drop Softball for the Swimming Team next year and I‘d just be glad she’s doing sports and having fun.

DD is only 5.3 so it was going to be really hard for her to pitch at the D1 level but she was constantly told that we will give her every opportunity possible if she practices 4x a week. Also told constantly that it's up to her if she wants to play or not. All she ever said was that she wanted to win a State Championship in HS and she did last year. She has signed with a very good JUCO that's local and probably the only place she would play. She had other opportunities. Interesting ? and we never really talked about it. Only camp she ever went to was where she signed. Never wanted to go to any others.

I do not have goals for DD, just try to provide the Resources and training necessary for her to achieve what she wants to her skill level and work ethic. Hope she learns teamwork an the ability to leverage skills.
DD does have aspirations of playing in college. Her pitching coach has put that in her head not me. Last lesson the coach was asking where she wanted to go and telling her to get on social media.
I asked after the lesson she said I am in 8th grade, did not know what school, major, size.
Crazy you have to make decisions about the future so young.
The important thing is not denying the opportunity. I think college is kind of a fool hearted goal until they show measurables. DD is throwing 56-58 consistently in 8th grade, never know, could be topped out, could be 65 as a junior in hs. Her skill set could be anywhere from descent hs pitcher to D1.

As dd is playing in college now my hope for her is to just have fun. A game that was once a source of “fun” as a child/teen can easily become similar to ”a job” at the collegiate level. The early morning/late night lifts and practices, the team meetings, long bus rides, etc., and then balancing it all with school - It definitely can be a lot! Several stop playing before their senior year.

I just tell her to stay positive, keep working hard, and have fun. If it ever becomes too hard or not fun anymore then feel free to walk away. It is not what will define you as an adult.

Goal - To Beat The Best

I was in elementary school when one of my teachers told me they had started giving women athletic scholarships to play sports in college. He said you are good at sports if you practice you can get one of those scholarships.
Really excited me to know of this.

So I started being more serious about doing things that could train me to be an athlete and work on softball.
Technically started paying more attention to mechanics and
Created training routines.
Working out with the goal to beat the best...
And DID! 💪🫀🥳
