As I have mentioned in previous posts, the plate umpire who made the original call almost immediately realized and stated that the ball was dropped. After conferring with the base umpire they decided to keep the call as originally stated mainly because they believed the defensive team stopped...
Interesting points. What I will say is that the plate umpire was very apologetic for making the call of "catch" too quickly not only right after the call was made, but after the game, as well. He knew the ball was not caught, knew the call was at a critical time, and I suspect had some doubts...
The timeline was that both umpires immediately acknowledged that the 3rd baseman had dropped the ball after the plate umpire made the initial call of "catch". MTR- in my post I said the play cost us a run, not that the call "beat us". However, if that call were not made as it was, the inning...
In the semi finals of our recent state tournament a call was made that cost us at least 1 run in a game that we lost 10-9, so I would like some help with rules interpretation. Here is the scenario: runner on third with 2 outs, batter hits a line drive that the third baseman attempts to make a...
My DD had shin splints about 2 years ago which significantly affected her softball playing ability. Since switching to Ringor cleats the problem has completely resolved, and there has been no recurrence.
When the pitcher receives the ball back from the catcher in ASA softball, is it preferable for her to be in, or out of the pitchers circle when taking the throw given the existence of the look back rule? Why, or why not?
One potentially effective way is to use a high tee drill where the tee is set up at armpit height, i.e. the top of the strike zone. Hitting the ball without hitting the tee in this position is very difficult if she drops her hands when she initiates her swing. Good luck.
Thanks for all the insightful replies. I was referring to teaching young hitters, and I believe that requires the ability to explain a fairly complex process such as hitting in a way that simplifies things for them. While many of the replies have been fairly sophisticated, they have all been...
When training younger hitters, is there any specific advice that you would give them as far as when to stride relative to the pitchers motion? Also, do you give specific suggestions on altering the stride, etc. to help time off speed pitches?
Thanks for the excellent video and insights. In looking at the video, the other thing that strikes me is how well she "squares up the ball" as her bat is nearly perpendicular to the path of the ball regardless of the pitch location. Any suggestions as far as drills that might help my DD improve...
Recently I have noticed on video that my daughter is often hitting the ball more than a foot in front of her front foot, which appears to result in an early wrist roll, and less than ideal extension through the ball. How far in front/behind the front foot should contact be made for an inside...
Lots of good information has been posted here, and Laura has the makings of a very good swing. However, it seems to me that her pause at toe touch negates some of the benefits of her weight transfer, and I suspect some of that may be due to her thinking so much about mechanics as she is in the...
