"As the pitcher pushes from the pitchers plate the hands must be separated. They cannot be joined in the glove and all movement of the pitching arm must be continuous." Monica Abbott illegal?
Illegal - Monica does a mini walk through on every pitch. She used the same motion in college. Runner gets a 1-2 step lead while the pitcher gets a 6-10" extra step, and the youth instructor catches heck from parents when he tries to correct either!- pdj

I've never heard of a left handed softball pitcher
The best I ever saw was a lefty, Ty Stofflet. The old timers often said "it is impossible for a lefty to throw the ball straight." In my limited experience the lefty does seem to get the idea of a loose arm and whip sooner than a lot of young righties.- pdj

Who Should Call Pitches?
Paid pitching coach or a dad is the last person I want to call pitches. I agree with Amy. For all the stated reasons plus, the catcher is the best defensive player to evaluate the performance of the pitcher. Train your catcher and listen to them. Too much science can blind you to the art of...- pdj

Cell Phone Use Team Policy?
No cells in the dugout. A lot of time is spent working with the girls on how, and what, to watch on the pitcher, defense and coaches. This is a weak part of the youth game and cell phones in the dugout make it worse. I believe some organizations had, at one time, a ban on all communication...- pdj
