Tee work is great but for my monies nothing beats front toss for learning how to get behind an inside low and outside low pitch IMHO. Ten feet away is all you need and depending on the skill level you can stay with outside low for awhile on a work day or fix it day. Then you can hit all zones...
My smallest is 5' 5" & 158LBS and is 17. She swings a 33 23 -10 Louisville Catalyst (the yellow one) my biggest girl is not tall at 5'8" but is 184LBS (farm girl) She hit with an Easton Stealth Clarity that is 34 23 and -10. Our league use Worth Red Dot Optic yellow 12" balls and are core .47...
IMHO it looks like she is using to muck arm movement back on the negative move. But I think this is caused because she is trying to load her hands (look at lead elbow movement) and the stretch her front shoulder is showing. See how she does not turn in with her hips or front knee...which is ok...
So...we set our schedule and all the athletes on the team gave me a calendar with dates so we could set excusable misses from practice. From that I made the best schedule possible. Monday we do pitchers and catchers and extra help for others, Wednesday team practice and Sunday team practice...
When we set mini goals for our athletes in our first 1 on 1 meeting we have had several practices. First is live pitching! nothing shows what a player needs to work on for offense then live pitching and working like it is a game situation. Next we put the girls into a bunch of activities on...
Private lessons to the team he is on now! I don't thinks so....I'd fire his butt. Part of a coaching staff is having everybody believe in the same teachings and philosophy. You don't have to agree with all the things but in front of the others you need to act like you do. If this is not...
I am a situational guy and a location teacher but if they ain't swinging that does not matter. Use the old phrase that if the can touch it they can hit it. The other thing to develop is that they are thinking hit every time and not just with the mind. They need to load, step and aggressively...
What's the point of teaching rotational hitting if your not trying to got yard! Yes it maximizes bat head speed but this swing has a natural slight incline to the swing and is meant to create lift! Some situations need a ground ball behind the runner and so on. We also have some kids who just...
Heavy bat like softballphreak mentioned is what I look at first. Depending on the age! This website talks a lot about it Bat Drag 101 After that we find that the kids who start with the rear elbow up will try really hard to get the rear elbow in the slot position and this occurs way to early...
We see this allot from players who do not know how to get behind the ball properly and this happens mainly on the lower pitches. The upper body is very upright at contact and they swipe across the top outside part of the ball hitting weak grounders or missing completely. They are also hitting...
Along with what Ihowser said....have her adjust her toe touch and heal drop to the pitchers motion. Most athletes when in a funk are just thinking too much. Then they step early and slow down to hit the ball/lunge and get over the front foot. If you just have her thinking about adjusting when...
Nothing for me works better than plain old BP...But! My team has a lot of visual learners on it and simply telling them to let the ball travel deeper into the zone just doesn't cut it. Same goes for them visualizing the point of contact. So, we place an object where we want contact in the...
I personally like a slight negative move in my players. Though some on our team prefer to create the upper body torque when they start the step with a slight turn in as the are stepping. The girls we get that have toooooo much sway (negative move) are usually the athletes who start with the...
I agree with this as well...we have found that young players will straighten and sometimes lock the leading elbow doing this. Which causes a mess of troubles E.g. casting, inability to stay inside the ball, elbow leading the hands and many more!
We personally like the starting the hands off...
