Rules are the rules....unless they aren't???

UPDATE..... The same pitcher and team were at this weekends tournament. My team did not play them. But, I did notice this same pitcher had altered her delivery. No crow hop at all. Also, hardly any push off or toe drag. A simple step and delivery. Her pitches appeared slower and less accurate...

Rules are the rules....unless they aren't???

And all I asked was that a warning be given!

Rules are the rules....unless they aren't???

You clearly are not from this area. And nowhere did I say "get her kicked out". At the C level around here, the Umpire would bring the coach out to the pitching rubber with the pitcher, tell her how she is throwing an illegal pitch, and give her a chance to correct it. All of this before a...

Rules are the rules....unless they aren't???

I would say her toe drag started approximately 3 feet away from the pitching rubber. The base ump and myself had a very good angle from the first base box. Close? No. 5-6 inches in the air? Yes. It was the biggest leap I had ever seen. No exaggeration. The head coach from the other team is known...

Rules are the rules....unless they aren't???

I disagree. And I figured some here would bring up the point that its a 12u 'C' tourney. I ask you; do 12 year olds matter? Does the fact its a C tourney matter? Should my team be at a disadvantage and not care about losing because they aren't older and more skilled? As a head coach, I feel it's...

Rules are the rules....unless they aren't???

I did reread the rules, and she was still illegal. I understand if there's a deep impression, as long as her foot is parallel with the pitching rubber, she is legal. This girl was quite obvious. When I asked the base umpire, he stated; "Home plate ump says she is legal, so she is legal". It was...

Rules are the rules....unless they aren't???

He neither admitted she was leaping, nor did he say she wasn't leaping. When I said she was leaping, his exact quote was; "I can see where here toe is dragging. As long as her toe drags she is ok". But an Umpire the next day of the tourney stated to me in a conversation; "Yes, she is illegal...

Rules are the rules....unless they aren't???

Then it shouldn't be a rule. It's either a rule, or it isn't. Otherwise, I would have taught my Pitchers to leap off the rubber, replant, push off, and get closer to the batter before releasing the pitch. The rule was clearly written to prevent said advantage.

Rules are the rules....unless they aren't???

12u 'C'. USSSA. Pitcher takes a major hop before replanting and dragging right toe on pitch. I ask Umpire if this is an illegal pitch (which I know it is). The following conversation ensues... Umpire: It's not illegal. I can see the spot where her toe drags. Me: Yes. But it's dragging after...

    My First Ejection

I got tossed in 8u once. Not my proudest moment. My 14 year old still makes fun of me, and never fails to tell everybody about it. The first baseman kept pulling her foot, by about a foot or so, before catching every ball at first. Umpire just kept calling my players out. Me: That's the third...

    Restrictions on eye black (NFHS)

It's a good thing that MLB players don't do anything silly on camera then...(sarcasm) Seriously though, I think almost all of us need to lighten up a little bit. Those college girls work their tails off getting to that position. And, when they graduate college and have to face the real world...

    OK, Call Me Crazy

Ya, but did your pitcher throw an "intentional ball" right down the middle of the plate and have the batter jack one to the outfield? Because that happened to me a couple weeks back. The pitcher and I had a nice little talk about how just trying to throw strikes is not "pitching".

1st win, but weird post game...

I lost a game last year 25-0. The "break" the coach gave us was to stop stealing bases. Hey, thanks, otherwise you might have scored 30. Just step off a base and let everybody go home. 15-0 and stepping off a base is less humiliating than 25-0 but knowing my team "earned" those outs. And, if...

1st win, but weird post game...

What was the situation? How much were you up when you lost? I was told the same thing by a coach, after he was up on me 20-0. "We got burned once by letting off the gas". I'm calling BS on this. The situation does matter. If you're up 27-9 in the bottom of the 5th in a 7th grade game, I find it...

1st win, but weird post game...

In this scenario the girls are 13 years old!! If you seriously don't care about kicking the snot out of 13 year olds, then that's all I need to know about you. Ultra competitive, take no prisoners, let's crush their will and spirit all in the name of winning a 7th grade softball game! I guess...
