    New Bat recommendations

I have to agree with Ken. I was partial to Xenos but hit flies with new CF5 last weekend and it and has some pop. As for the Xenos, we've had to send a couple back that have gotten "loose" between handle and barrel. One of the replacements, a 2012 Mendoza model, got snapped in half by one of...

    Ethics in the tryout season

I don't expect loyalty. A player and parents must do what's best for their situation. If it's more playing time, better development, less (or more) travel, better recruiting opportunities, find it. I would rather a player leave and be successful on another team, than stay on my team and be...

DD Pitched well in Tourny but lost...

The title of your thread says it all. "DD Pitched Well". Leave it at that. There's no need to blame anyone for the loss. Whether you're a player or a coach, if you did what you thought was right and gave 100% effort, that's all that can be expected. Don't worry about the W's, you're...

PGF 16U Practice Game Sunday 7/29

Sorry, this is probably the wrong forum but we had a team back out of a practice game. We have a field in Irvine, Sunday 7/29 in the afternoon. If you'd like to play please contact me with team name, contact name, email address and a contact telephone number. Thanks. Paul Nakama Irvine Sting...

    National Showcase Events

One of the best is probably in your own backyard: Indy tournament With you starting in 16s, your recruiting mode should be fully ramped up and the Indy Boulder is what showcases are all about. Lots of coaches babysitting their commits but also coaches (from D1 to JCs) trying to fill rosters...

    what base to go too?

Good job Coach. Keep it up. It can be frustrating because you may not see results, yet. They're just a little young to be executing consistently. But, you're setting them up to be better, smarter players. I'm sure you'll be happily surprised when very soon, they'll be on defense and there's...

    More DP/flex sub questions

In your scenario, the DP has left the game, with one re-entry permitted back into her original batting position. Just like a regular substitution for any other position. Now, there's no need to limit your substitution to the Flex, though. If you have a better runner than the Flex on the...

    2012 USA team roster

There were 20 players who were invited to try-out for the National team. 5 made the team. The balance are on the Elite team.

13 yr old - to pitch or not to pitch?

Does she have a secondary defensive position? Push her to get defensive reps there also. And, hopefully not just at 1B. Keeping her defensive skills up will give her coaches more options to keep her in the game if she's not pitching.

    what base to go too?

Yelling to let them know where to throw and what to do is the first step but making them understand why is going to make them better in the future. Teach them the Why not just the What. Remember, they have short attention spans, but walking through different situations at practice with runners...

Catching ball at toe touch drill

You really don't need an off-hand glove because you can always toss wiffle balls and just have them touch it with their open palm. But, it's much better with a glove, much more realistic game-speed reps. Get them comfortable in the batter's box.

Finally got her swinging but now she isn't keeping her eye on the ball

Once she understands that she needs to keep her eyes on the ball introduce another concept to her. It's easier to see the ball if her head isn't moving around (she'll also be able to generate more power). Pretend that there's a stake going from the top of her head through her body to her front...

    16U popping up

To go along with the stick in the ground here's a swing thought for her - Hips, shoulders, hands and then bat. Take the sweet spot of the bat through the plane of the pitch.

Catching ball at toe touch drill

I love this drill to teach bunting. Hope you have a lefty on the team so everyone can borrow her glove. Put glove on back hand (right hand for right handed batters), square to bunt and catch the ball. If you can catch it, you can bunt it. Let the bat be an extension of your hand and just...

    Softball bat store??

Get her a Xeno. I'm sure everyone is used to the sound by now but it has good pop and the -10 is well balanced so will swing lighter than her Catalyst.
