Funny how the HS coach and AD are taking the most offense ...

Well, now I have to jump in and say .... NEVERMIND. LOL IMO, have the player talk with the HC and ask if she can get some time in the circle on JV. If not, then take your dd off of the team.

I probably should not add this. I had a situation this fall where one young lady thought that she was V. She could not make plays when I put her into the game. She asked if she could pitch on the JV. Heck yes. This was her way of wanting to get time in the circle and show me that she was V. We have scrimmages that are sometimes 2 or 3 innings but with situations like having a runner on 1st or runner on 2nd, ... In these scrimmages, she would not throw a strike. Her parents were upset that I put so much pressure on her. Heck, I didn't at all. Her parents had her quit. I don't know what she gained since she was getting to play on the JV but more power to them. I hope that she is happy without the pressure I was putting on her.

I think it's wrong that she is made to throw BP.

Everyone is so used to travel, but, HS is a different animal. Short season, single games.

How many reps did the football QB2 get? Or the backup hockey goalie?

Okay, so here's a different question for the ADs and HCs out there.

What if you have an incompetent coach who drives players away from the team? Over the last four seasons, including the 2020 season that wasn't, our HS team lost five TB players, all of whom said the reason for not playing was because they hated the coach. He has gotten worse with his forgetfulness over the last year to the point he just doesn't bother telling the umpires about substitutions anymore. Normally, the umps and our AC coach catch it before it costs us, but it's happened four times already this season in only five games. He fills out the lineup cards with the wrong numbers, so there's always confusion for the other team coaches the first time through the order.

One of the worst parts, though, is his refusal to use new technology for team communication. Recently, the district went to the Remind App to prevent any inappropriate texting between coaches and players, yet the HC refused to put the app on his phone because he thought he had to pay for "In-app purchases." It has gotten to the point where all communication runs through the AC now.

He's a 68-year-old former gym teacher, so I give him credit for wanting to stay involved. Sadly, he revealed to the team captains that he had cancer during the season last year and just finished treatments in February. Thankfully, he's in remission, but his treatments prevented the team from doing any extra workouts over the winter because he didn't have the energy. When the AC asked if he could run them, the coach's answer was no, he needed to be there.

How would you handle this situation?

I am 65. Maybe I'm washed up as well. I don't put apps on my phone. Heck, I don't even want a phone. I had my assistant do all team communication. She is female and we use Groupme to communicate. In fact, she asked to do it and I thought it a good idea. It kept me off of GroupMe and allowed the team to communicate without the old guy seeing what they were discussing.

Per the TB players quitting. I had some quit as well. I wouldn't let them do what they wanted to do. Instead, they had to do the team stuff like all of the lesser players including our various infield and outfield drill work. Yes, some of it was basic. I coached a couple of baseball teams that were the #1 teams in the US. Guess what? We did that basic stuff every practice. (Not of long but as a routine to set the mood for practice.)

If this coach is so mentally deficient, get all of the parents together and go to the AD and get rid of him.

Funny how at the younger ages communities can't find enough coaches to coach all of the rec/all-star/travel teams. Once they get to HS everyone has an opinion on how to coach a team.
Doesn't exactly take an Earl Weaver level mind to realize that a good Travel ball pitcher like the OP's DD deserves more than ZERO innings.

In regards to the reps for the QB2 or back up goalie. I believe OP mentioned the team was up 12-3 and and all nine starters back in the field. If we are relating this to football, I’ve seen backups go in all the time when up big or down big. Goalies get pulled all the time (mostly in losing efforts) but get live action none the less.

How else is a P (or anyone for that matter) going to get live in game experience?

I appreciate the feedback. I understand the reticence about having apps on the phone, but this was a district requirement. It was a free app. He just needed to add a payment method in the event he chose to make any in-app purchases.

Honestly, we hope he retires so no one needs to go to the AD and the AC gets the job.

This is an unfair statement. And its incorrect on top of being unfair. But it does show the tendency of AD's to favor the coaches over the kids. Very telling.

I’m regards to the “rust” comment you referred to. I agree. Everyone says the most important thing for a pitcher is time in the circle, if that doesn’t happen, a pitcher will “rust” and as said unfair and incorrect. Also the statement to say she doesn’t belong or isn’t good enough. If the coach put her on the team, she is good enough, otherwise she’s be on JV pitching.
