Really brought out some crotchety old men with this one. God forbid the girls enjoy hearing their names and numbers announced along with a 15 second clip of a song, in my daughters case she likes to use a song used by her favorite MLB player. I do TB because she loves it not, like some of you, so she can have a signing day to announce she’s going to be playing softball for the prestigious south western Kentucky community college all while obtaining her degree in basket weaving.

Walkout music would be fine if you were the only game playing at a complex.

Just another example of people who think the Sun orbits around them and no one else exists in the world.

I knew this was going to be “for the girls”. Sure it is.

OK, I gotta ask. Who do you think it's for if not "the girls."

I think if you look at the motivation for parents to do this you will find varying reasons. I doubt it has much to do with the needs of the players, it has more to do with needs of parents.

I want to make clear that I like walkout music just fine in a hs or college setting where it’s the only game going on.

I really despise it in a tb complex setting though. I especially despise the use of music that has anything to do with umpires and the other team. There is an example of that earlier in this thread. It’s tacky, it’s not funny in any way and it’s really weak sauce.

TB complexes and tournament directors should ban the use of speakers in this context.

Hmmm......I agree that it can be pretty annoying at a tournament if someone is blasting music really loudly. I've experienced this more in team warm-ups than for walk up music though, and it's usually the coaches themselves doing it. No idea what the motivation behind that is other than p*ssing people off.

For the most part, the actual walk up songs don't bother me (assuming they aren't blasted at 110 decibels), but the in between inning music can be pretty awful (the crap the adults pick....Centerfield...Thunderstruck...etc.).

We sporadically do walk up music in local tournaments and friendlies, but keep the volume low with a directional speaker so it shouldn't be too annoying. I find it interesting what the girls pick for their song. Right now DD wants to use the beginning of Anarchy in the UK by the Pistols, but I'm not sure if I should step in and squash that. I like the song, but the opening line might be a tad much.

I am an antichrist....
And I am an anarchist.....

Anyway this is what we use. You can turn it up really loud....but don't.

I'm a karaoke fan. That's a bit different though if the players walked up with a microphone ... 😁

I’m in the walkup-music-is-an-abomination category, but one consideration that has not been brought up is how music effects streaming.

YouTube and Facebook will both cut off streams if they pick up any commercial music. It’s not just 18U Diamond Elite players looking to get recruited who stream their games, DD has always had teammates with far-flung relatives who watch the games online.

I do like the announcements (especially as a scorekeeper), but keep the music out of the games.

Kid’s got good taste!

If/when I’m the team d.j., I’m leading with Pat Travers Band, “Snortin’ Whiskey”.

I‘m thinking this calls for a List Of Walk Out Music Songs That Might Be A Bad Idea in the Off Topic post….
