Because he sort of said he molded/learned his swing using the theory while we have no idea what Bonds etc did when they were LEARNING how to swing eg 8-? YO. Most of us are working with young hitters in their developmental years and the queues, etc that work for them may not be what the Pros need to use to maintain a swing which got them drafted, etc.

Just a thought. I appreciate James posting a swing and look forward to seeing his moving ball swing.

I'd bet Bobby bonds never taught his son to snap his hands backwards...Same with jeff trout.

Regardless, James had the best explanation of what worked for him in post 426. Almost an exact match to what I stumbled upon independently. It's pretty simple. When its time to swing, move(throw might be a better cue) your hands like this as hard as possible.

While turning forward to hit the ball at the same time.

I had heard/seen stuff like the mike schmidt video growing up. That type of thing didnt make sense. But trying this changed my mind.

This gif didnt make a lot of sense either.

But when you want to hit, if you do this with the hands and turn forward at the same time("at launch") it works. I dont have a BA(badass) machine like James. But I felt enough off the tee to believe what Barry et al are saying.

You are confusing me with somebody who has a dog in the “ fight”..

If what they are saying has helped your kid(s) rake then that is all that matters 🙂

I actually think drills like the Braun drill (which is a similar tee swing to what we see from Pujols,Bichette, etc in this thread) , where you sort of eliminate the lower half, are decent drills for kids who have problems with how they use their hands/forearms.

You could also think of the Bond’s drill as “advanced pepper” so........ 😉

Just trying to understand better...Does thing swing represent the feeling/action of the cross-body contraction that TDS has been promoting?

At heel strike I am thinking two things, straight down with my hands and almost like a grunt feeling in my core. It is the swing an axe hard feeling.

Nope. There’s nothing about the front-side contraction that makes sense to me in the context of the swing - unless I’m splitting logs - or I can match up with video of elite hitters in their game swings. I’ve put Maddie’s swings on display for her entire journey. She’s currently a much better representative of my understanding of swing mechanics than I could ever hope to be.

Yes, that is because you are using a different pattern then what the pros say and do... Swinging "down to" (remove the loop) ties rite into the core contraction.

Sano, needs to remove his big loopy arm swing as well if he wants to stay in the game (avg 201)..

Nobody is arguing the Josh Donaldson (tewks) or the TM stuff works. It does work, but it is not what the all time hall of famers say they do. So you can choose the approach of Tewks or TM or whoever else, or you can try to understand the approach that Trout, Bonds, Pujols, you know those scrubs do.
Or you can do neither and use your own best judgement about what you think needs to be done with your individual hitter (if anything)... :)
