Here is a sequence from my 10u dd from this weekend. I numbered them to allow comment on any particular phase of the motion. I have one thought in particular that troubles me but I want to hear what others say first so I don't bias any comments. Thanks!

I love it, great photos. Nice and clear on arm rotation and where the ball is facing during the circle.

Looks good. Her front left shoulder appears to be all the way 'open' pulling her hips around to a closed position. Hard to tell for sure, as angles can be deceiving...

Dont have much time this a.m. but in frame 4 her shoulders are way to closed. She looks like a good pitcher for her age.

Just a bit too much forward lean in the upper body. Most do that for control (slowing the bottom of the windmill) but you have to stay back and let that arm come through with all its momentum instead and get used to it.

This is what I think to. I would like her to actually move to release between pictures 3 and 4 and try and keep her shoulder where it is in picture 3 through picture 4 relying on the whip of the forearm and wrist to generate speed. Thoughts?

Yes, she needs to keep her shoulder back more and release it through where it is at pic #3. Try and get her to resist more at this point and keep the upper body still and allow the whip to come through on it's own.

She looks great for her age!

Do you have a cue or is it just a feel based on discussion with dd?

As foot lands forward lean and shoulder roll stops??

hard to tell from the picture but it looks like she is almost flat footed in pic #1 at 12 oclock most top notch pitchers have there stride foot just coming in contact with the ground or is still off the ground at 12 oclock.

can't get image to post....see photo here http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab156/dwood1971/finch_open_weight_back_2.jpg

Maybe try to get the stride leg higher on the push off would help the lean forward and the sequence of the arm circle.

She is very good for her age. The main thing that I would work on, now, is the fact that in the first frames she is dragging the side of her right foot (and then, she goes to the toe.) Secondly, she has been taught to end in a 4 and she is kicking out too far, to the left of the power line. I have a 9 YO doing that right, now - and I know that it can get worse and develop into a donkey kick.

She appears to be a very nice athlete. Good job.

What I sometimes say is, when your foot lands, STOP, and allow the arm to keep powering downward. The focus is down now and not forward anymore.
This is a common issue with young pitchers, they think by using the upper body and shoulders to release the ball that it will help them get more speed. They need to trust their release and their legs.
