The umps here would know better obviously but I don't think this is breaking any rules unless the runner was carried home on his back...
2018 NFHS Softball Rules book
Rule 3 Players Substitutes and Coaches
Section 5 Coaching
Art 4 A coach shall not physically assist a runner during playing action.
Out

Also Section 6 The Runner is Out
Art 5 Any offensive team member, other than another runner, physically assists the runner
Out

And it was the opposing coach that pointed it out. In a nutshell, you can get away with a high 5, but do not touch the runner. And contact can be then interpreted for assistance.

Believe me, we looked it up.

How is hugging "assisting"? That was why I mentioned carrying her home on his back...Gimme a break...
Your coach is a better man than I if he didn't go all Bobby Knight on that other coach..there wouldn't be enough water bottles in the state....

A base coach touching a runner is ruled an out in many leagues. It stems from a coach pushing a 6U rec girl towards the next base when yelling "RUN!!!!" 15 times in a row doesn't work.

Right I realize that but again it is one of those rules which people overexaggerate, especially when it comes to touching/high fiving/hugging/kissing/patting them on the arse (probably a no-no) a kid on an over the fence HR...

Why does a coach need to hug a runner? The play isn't dead until they cross home. Celebrate when appropriate, on the base paths is not appropriate.

Look did I say it was something I would encourage? No...but gimme a break. Plus hugging isn't assisting..if I went out and hugged my kid when she was stealing second I doubt that would help with anything other than her getting pissed at me which I certainly need no help with..

I believe over the fence HR is a dead ball, there is no playing action, bad call by blue. But then again the coach should know don't touch your players.

The NCAA has on multiple occasions ruled differently. Watch the coach grab her and send her back to touch home.
Out.

And if you are the umpire you can make that call. Your are saying it is ok even if you wouldn't encourage. Don't touch the runner, no reason to, so no reason to justify why it was ok.

Yeah, if I'm coaching first and I give a girl a fist bump after a single and she gets called out, I might go nuts.
