Just got back from a Vegas tournament and forgot to mention that little swivel thing that goes with the Link Spider is essential! The fields had super small chain link behind home, which made it impossible to mount the Link Spider. I was able to mount the camera on the side fence and swivel it to capture the entire field.
A teammate's dad couldn't record yesterday due to not being able to mount his camera, saw the swivel thing I had, and promptly ordered one.
My bad, it's the tripod mount, it swivels, lol

Yowza! That is small. Shooting through that would no doubt get fence in the shot. In this case, and I'm assuming you did this, I would have mounted just beside the backstop, pointing at an angle towards second base; most likely not losing any shot quality. This is also one of those examples that really emphasize the bad location GoPro chose to put the USB port. Mounting on 1st base side puts the USB plug, possibly, in a bind. So in this case, I would mount on 3rd base side.
And, as you mentioned, the tripod mount is needed on all GoPros. We like the aluminum Smatree devices because they are one piece. But you can source a plastic version on Amazon if you so choose.

My daughter is currently playing 9U and I'm looking to get my recording setup before the spring season. She is one of many catchers on the team, meaning she catches 1-2 games a weekend.
I get setting the camera placement on the right side of the batters box since most girls are righty batters. Where do you recommend placing the camera if your daughter bats Lefty but not catching? What about batting Lefty and catching?

I can only give my opinion on what we have been using for 400+ games. Lynx Spyder is an outstanding product!! Highly recommended.
We use a cheap $30-$35 sport camera on Amazon. Just Search "Sports Camera". There is very little if any difference between these knock offs and the GO Pro.
I have a Hero first series but wouldn't leave it out in the rain and snow we play in
Here is a sample
Not bad for a $30 camera
Here is a game that has night view go to about 45:00s
