If in the umpire's judgment the 2B had a chance to make an out on the play, then he could have INT. If in the umpire's judgment the 2B had no chance to make an out on the play, then play on ............
bmakj - do you happen to be from Massachusetts? This exact call just happened last week in DD's HS game. They called interference on the runner. However, I thought this wouldn't be interference since the 1b already had a chance to make a play on the ball.
Text of the rule...
E. When a fair batted ball strikes the person, attached equipment, or clothing of an umpire or a runner:
5. After passing a fielder and another fielder has the opportunity to make an out.
EFFECT: Dead ball, and the runner is out. The batter-runner is awarded first base and runners advance one base if forced. Runners not forced to advance must return the the base reached prior to the interference.
More than one fielder can make an attempt, but determining whether or not a player had a chance to make an out is a judgement call by the umpire. Experience with the level of play is helpful for making that determination.
so with 2 outs bases loaded, this would end the inning, with no runs scoring on this play, correct?
