How does this compare to one of the Muhl devices that clicks? Also, didn't someone on one of these sites come up with something similar where they measured a dowel rod, cut it, trimmed it and inserted it in pvc leaving room for sand to travel? So, when one made an attempt at the swing, the sand shifted to the point you could hear it and feel it? There is a chance that this idea was sent to me on my old email account which I can't get into anymore. I didn't go to the point of building one. Buttermaker, you've been around long enough whether you had heard this or not. Shawn as well.

Edited to add:

It was not Muhl but I googled clicker hitting aids and several devices came up.

I believe Joof and/or Dave came up with the BB's in the pvc pipe. I own one of those sticks that has a ball on it that will slide to the end and have used it. The main difference between those and this weight on a pc of pvc is that the movement is concentrated in a small area and the weight is really felt in the forearms and wrists. The bb's and ball on a stick take too much movement and is too light IMO. The weight slides easily on a quick snap and you feel it.

Said another way - the weight and short pipe adds a resistance that the forearms and wrists must overcome and very quickly. Training the forearms to rotate very suddenly to get the weight to slide down the pipe as a quick snap and not a long movement that the stick and pvc pipe with bb's create.

Yes, it was BB and not sand. Like I said, I never built one. Also, I do like the idea of the weight as I really believe and use wooden bats in my lessons and coaching.

Not here.
I was just 'throwing out' the device as another 'tool in the tool box' as they say. Like any hitting device your mileage may differ......
Hoping everyone has a great New Year!

I made a bunch of PVC bats with dowel in the handle and loose shot in the barrel. It was designed by Howard Carrier and was used as a one hand bat. Could that be the same?

I recall Howard sending me an email on that.

I like the conversation. Let me add this:

The barrel is turned rearward and the rear leg is what turns it forward. Without a rear leg turning forward you will use your shoulders/torso.

Bass - yes I believe in out from. What gets this forward is the rear leg.

Is the barrel path set before the rear leg turns it forward, or as a result of that process? What allows the hitter to match their swing with the location of the pitch? (Note: Not disagreeing with the statement... just trying to understand your view of the process.)

Not sure if you are on twitter, but TM posted a few AGon swings yesterday where he talked about this I think. Not sure, but I think what Buttermaker is describing is the action TM describes.

Yes, I am on twitter. There are a number of different thoughts associated with direction...

Agreed, but I believe (Buttermaker please correct me here if I am wrong) Buttermaker is a TM "disciple" which is why I mentioned it.
