I will preface this by saying I have no knowledge when it comes to softball.
My daughter is 12, 5'1 1/2", 96 pounds, all lower body. She has been swinging a 31" 18oz aluminum bat (drop 13). I didn't know any better when I bought the thing, it was for her to use in an in-house league to see if she even liked the sport.
Fast forward a few months, she killed it in the in-house league and found her way onto a 14u travel team. No, they did not keep everyone.
She needs a new bat, her cheap aluminum bat is not going to cut it going forward. As I'm looking around, soliciting advice from people, they are recommending a 31/21 drop 10. Im really worried about what going from a drop 13, to a drop 10 is going to do to her. Should I consider starting with a drop 11 for this season, then moving her up to a -10 for next? From what I have been reading, it seems like she should already be at at a -10. I think I unknowingly did her a great disservice by having her use the -13.
I know mechanics and a proper swing are the most important thing for her to learn right now. She has a hitting coach now, who says the bat doesn't matter at this point, however I would rather move her up to a more appropriately sized bat vs being behind the 8 ball going forward.
What the heck do I do?
