I find it interesting that posters say it's OK to violate state laws with little or no consequences, but not college team rules. I guess it's all about personal priorities.

I hate that I got into this thread!

the gateway theory has been pretty soundly debunked

while i agree that use by adolescents with a still developing mind is not a good thing for anyone, legalization actually does a better job keeping it out of the hands of minors than criminalization ever did

kids in my high school can get their hands on illicit drugs a lot easier than they can get their hands on booze.....

not to completely derail this thread, but the willful ignorance of many within our government to look at the medicinal uses is astounding - the early research into cancer fighting properties, brain healing properties (think CTE), the pain relief properties of some of the compounds found within cannabis bear huge promise......10-20 years from now we're going to look back at this and wonder what took us so long

bottom line is these girls broke a law, outdated or not, as well as team/school/NCAA rules......they'll lose some time, hopefully they'll smarten up.......but that's all this really deserves

i mean it's not like they didn't shake hands with an opposing coach after a game.......hahahahaha

The Gateway Theory has been debunked....really?

So you are telling me that all of these heroin, coke and meth addicts out there went straight from milk and Kool-Aid to the hard stuff?...
There was no Gateway Drug that eased them into the hard stuff, with the lure of "oh, it's ok...weed was harmless, so I'll try something with a little more kick"?

People addicted to pain killers, I can agree with there being no Gateway Drug, if they had a serious injury and they were prescribed a painkiller as a remedy and got addicted that way.

But in regards to heroin, coke and meth...ya, weed is THE Gateway Drug. People start out on weed and work there way into the hard stuff...Hence Gateway Drug...

One of my childhood friends, who was 7 years younger than me, and was like a little brother to me. Started out like they all do...
He was a simple drinker and dabbled in recreational use of pot.
Two years ago, he was high on pot, and did meth for the first time.
He got ferociously addicted to meth.
He entered himself into re-hab 2 times.
6 months after he tried meth for the first time, he ODed....We closed his casket door and chucked him in his grave.

Weed isn't a Gateway Drug?... ya, sure...

Everyone knows that beer is what leads to heroin. Just like ice cream and hot dog sales increase drowings. It is classic causation without correlation.

Why didn't the girls just have their doctor write a prescription for pain killers and anti-depressants like normal legal people? Weed is bad.

Sound to me like drinking might have been the "gateway drug".

Just like there are lots of people who drink responsibly, there are lots of people who smoke marijuana responsibly.

If you have an addiction problem you will have an isdue with something. The gateway theory is ludicrious as it asserts that were it not for X then Y would not occur. Follwing that twisted logic we can conclude that were in to for spoons and forks people would not be obese.

How many do you know who only drink, and do not smoke weed, started doing meth?
