I did not say Widely,I said a Males shoulders are wider. That was your word not mine , I stated there is a difference and I believe there is, the slow mo in the first clip is what it is, I coach this young lady and I guarantee you at full speed her elbows are not widely displaced from her body and she hits the crap out of the ball, the rest of the clips are hitters taking actual swings. I dont know the premise of the first vid but it looks like she was trying to acheive a certain point in the swing not take an actual cut........... your comparing apples to oranges..... anyone that has ever instructed girls or women know there is a Physical difference between male and female athletes, and adjustments have to be made, what ever those adjustments are to get them to where they need to be at contact.
I have taken girls that are busty in your words and moved their hands slightly away from their body and seen swing speeds increase 5 to 7 mph......... If thats not a difference I dont know what is

Absolutely true.

You see the same difference between boys and men.

Widely displaced from the body at the RVP Connection Point position .... are indeed my words .... and if an instructor directs a hitter to have a perfectly vertical forearm, then the result will be a displacement of the elbow further away from the body at the RVP Connection Point position than should be the case.

I can offer the same guarantee. Absolutely, no way, will the swing being demonstrated scale as swing speed is increased. Which begs the question .... why select a swing mechanic that doesn't scale and doesn't match up with video of how hitters swing a bat?

The "hand set" is important. Having hitters (male or female) test out various hand sets is fairly normal, and a good idea IMO.

I personally haven't found a correlation between a person's bust size and the need to have the elbow widely displaced from the body at the RVP Connection Point position .... and I have had some hitters that were extremely busty, it just wasn't an issue for them, .... they didn't experience a need to have the elbow widely displaced from their body at the RVP Connection Point position.

He also dosent have breasts he has to contend with that the elbow has to clear, if you put a male and a female at contact they will look identical........ the difference is getting them to that point.

Epstein put together an interesting demonstration in one of his videos.

He took a male swing, and a female swing, .... and compared them from 'launch' to 'contact'. To make a point, he turned each of the swings into stick figures so that you couldn't tell which was the male and which was the female. He then overlapped the two swings. His observation was that the two swings were virtually identical.

I think you need to re think this before you quote your beliefs......... you seem to be stuck on one part of the swing in a slow mo vid thats not used in an actual cut, but you tout a product like the insider bat that makes the hitter practice bad mechanics by trying to stand right up on the plate and hit a ball so deep on the plate it could never be driven back up the middle. Dosent take a rocket scientist to figure that out
Come on dude you are smarter than that, and so are the people that see it
As far as the stick figures go............ Ive never instructed stick figures so I couldent tell you how close they are to being a perfect match at contact. I have instructed a ton of kids, all are different, all require different mechanical adjustments and I can tell you this much theres a difference between male and female, at the shoulders and hips.
Now in saying that if I were to take a molly johnson or some other top player in the country and do the stick figure thing I could almost understand that, but the top one half of one percent is not who I work with........ and to be honest epsteins observation has no bearing on the normal every day kids I see. maybe you are an elite instructor and teach elite players......... but not here. And trying to learn from the best works as well as the students you teach and what their limits are.
Alot can be said for the pursuit of excellence but as much can be said about common sense and working and achieving goals for the normal athlete in the actual world
This topic has gone so far off track of the original post its not funny, and I apologize for my part in that.

Not much to re-think here BD.

I’m not going to offer a trade that I’ll decide to like a flawed demonstration in return for you liking something you believe is flawed.

I’ll repeat the question ….

Why select a swing mechanic to practice that doesn't scale with swing speed and doesn't match up with video of how hitters swing a bat?

Why is it every time you seem to get into an altercation with someone you bring in a video of Straightlegs DD? Do you really not have any of your supposed students? Just asking. I know it has been asked before and I guess it needs to be asked again. Where are your students??? I have watched on here a lot and have posted on here quite a bit and it really seems that you have a problem with Howards teachings. I know I know you will say you don't....but all of your video arguments has some form of Howards teaching in it and Straightlegs DD in it. Well get your "students" on here for a change.
I know you will now attack me and ask me for my students and I will tell you I have none! I simply have my 2 DD's and I am just a dad trying to teach my kids the best I can without all the rubbish that seems to go along with much of what you have to say. Don't get me wrong there are some things that you have posted on here that I really like but my god why do you always go back to Straightlegs DD???? I think you have worn that one out....Please move on. The female body is different then the male body.....sorry it is a fact.....you may not have realized it but it is a fact and you cannot hide from it as long as you want to but it will not change the facts no matter how much you want it to.
I am not trying to start anything with you I am just throwing out my two cents worth and just saying some on here is tired of your obvious effort to undermine both Howard and Straightleg. You can deny it all you want but it is old and obvious. Please move on!!!

When you teach a mechanic that has the rear elbow unnaturally too far away from the body...

Its a good thing, then, that despite what that picture shows, that isn't what Howard teaches. Perhaps that is why the video was taken down by SL?
