Last night at we had this discussion about college softball and what was more important. I thought this would make for some fun answers.
What is more important ( not for the parent ) being on a D1 team or playing on a D1 team ?

This all came from what is better, to start every game on a D2 school or sit the bench on a D1 school ?
Is it really playing D1 if you go to Prairie View or Alcorn

My dd played/started every game for 4 years at a D-2 that beat D-Is in those 4 years. IMO, the ability to be a part of something special and play all the time gives a player so many possibilities that the might not have elsewhere. Of course, you have to know your dd and her abilities. Also, you have to be "good" with that decision. Believe me, there will be so many that will say, if your child is successful, that your child didn't play the top competition and so, any accomplishments are worthless.

By college, if she's still playing then, my daughter will be making the calls and I'm sure she'll have an opinion on this. As for me, I'd rather watch her play. I don't really care for which school.

I'd rather my DD go to a D3 and play for 4 years than sit the bench at a D1 or D2. This game is over at 22 for 99.9% of people who are lucky enough to play past 18. I don't think these girls are working as hard as we all know they are to sit their final 4 seasons. Now for some it's going to happen but I think most girls want to play rather than sit.

It seems the answers you're getting are that it's a better experience to play than not play. But I wonder if there was more to your question since you referenced D-I and D-II and Prairie View.

Are you asking if there's some value in playing D-1 over D-II, even if it means playing less? This is not the same as comparing the strength of the teams (I'd rather play for a weaker team than sit for a stronger team.) You mentioned ''level,'' which is something else.

Any athlete that committed will tell you that sitting the bench isn't what they put in all the hours and make all the sacrifices for.

Athletes at that level want to contribute to the team.

Why do you assume that D1 or D2 somehow equates to a higher level of play when compared to D3? This is one of the greatest myths of the game. I have seen many a D1 come down to Florida in the Spring that would be hard pressed to beat a good HS team..

Definitely not what the meaning of my post was. But I see it could read as such. But in reference to your post there's a D3 school nearby that couldn't beat many local MS teams so it's all relative really.

I was at a camp this weekend and the D1 coach who had been at D2 years before said he had some better athletes at the D2 school than he does now. Don't worry so much about being at a lower division. Where will you get to play, what can you afford, who has your best schooling for your profession.
