Tommy, check out some of Prince's swings, you'll see similar head movement.

YUP, in Prince's swings I see lateral tilt, toward the plate. BUT, not backward. 2 different directions.

FFS, to me that's the MAJOR benefit of this teaching. The sudden, explosive bat speed allows this via being able to wait longer on a pitch.

I believe that is what Howe is suggesting. He's saying you don't simply turn the barrel and then find the ball, but that the turning of the barrel is done with information as to where the ball will be.

Back arm is unfolding in the correct direction - however you want to think of it. I rely on my eyes to determine direction...

We're in agreement. Though the back arm is not the director.

The backside is the power source. The power source should not also be the director in my opinion.

It's been a good discussion guys. I really do have to go. Back to work this week.

Tommy. This same swing was filmed from the 1st base line. I gif d it too, can't get them on my phone from work, but you might be able to find it.

There are some swing vids of Prince around that he goes back so hard he has to catch himself with his back foot after contact.

Is it possible that Miggy is simply turning the barrel to the ball at a point when he has a hint of information as to where the ball will be?

Well said Five frame. My posts for the last week were on exactly this point.

Early bat speed, RIGHT NOW, as you like to say. TURN THE BARREL.
Also the swing is over by this time group.
Torque and swivel.

OR, is there movement of the barrel, or just hand and knob adjustments towards ball vicinity, before full forces applied?

like I said when I am in the cage, with the machine on full blast, at 35 feet, with no source of timing triggers, I must start my swing, and go, with NO IDEA, where the ball is going to be.
My barrel is moving, I am slotting, I am turning, my hands, wrists, are moving, I feel the knob, it moves, then, I fire the barrel.

Everything is slow, and smooth, till my release.

when you started talking about "turn the barrel", the number 1 question was, WHEN.

disclaimer, my thoughts to typed words, come out like my sock drawer.

there is a reason, why the hI guys always use Bonds as their model.

Gif works

And my point to Booth this whole time was that he was unable to reach any kind of extension with his arms (even though the tee was out front) because he was not rotating the forearms immediately AS the rear elbow slots...as I once said to Knight - you can think of it as the rear elbow and barrel tip are connected in the beginning with an imaginary rod....as the elbow drop/moves forward the initial direction of the barrel tip will be rearward (not back at the catcher but away from the opposite field) ...or vice versa - as the barrel goes rearward the elbow moves forward.

His elbow glued into his side and stayed there and the front arm collapsed...

Not the same action in my eyes. The hitter on tops head snaps backwards and then His head is snapped forward after the swing as if water skiing and the rope just tightened up and yanked him forward. It lacks balance.
I just went out and swung a bat for 10 minutes to see what I had to do to get my head to make that movement. When I managed to get my head to do it the barrel was out of my control. It felt like My back leg was a pogo stick and I was just along for the ride.
