A good hitter will have their barrel in motion well before the point-of-no-return.

There is value in studying, understanding and duplicating check-swings.

That's really a good idea, I wish more of us would of come up with that.

another post to highlight is #158:

It is a subtle thing, but watch her rear shoulder - as she starts to launch the barrel her rear shoulder retracts as it drops (lateral tilt) - this allows a deeper barrel turn.

I am not sure what you are talking about here? Do you think that we (the above mentioned) tell our hitters to launch the barrel before the pitch is released and hope they guessed right? Once the pitch is released the hitter makes a decision on location and speed....they learn to launch the barrel rearward and upon first movement can alter the barrel's plane before it comes around if they have to (it's called making an adjustment). And if they learn how to create resistance in their rear hip and rear leg - once the barrel is launched the lower body will lead the swing....giving the hitter even more time to make an adjustment...

It feels like all you have to do is guide the barrel to contact....

MTS - If you could show a video in which your same hitter checks her swing, it might just put to bed the "lack of adjustability" notion and provide proof that the rearward launch of the barrel initiates, but does NOT fully commit the batter to swinging at a pitch.

The difference between MTS, Teacherman, Marcus, redhotcoach, and other posters here, and those of us who are more conventional who do not come here, but send me private messages telling me to stay away, is this! We do not believe in committing the bat barrel early.

It's not about committing the bat early. It's about bat speed early in the swing, so you don't have to commit early. Sudden acceleration getting the bat quickly deep into the zone.

I only have a Cabera take....I thought RDB had some check swings.

Poor attempt! The barrel stays behind the hands, as I have always said. That relationship does not change. The bat head moves with rotation, the shoulder turns, the hands turn, the bat turns. That is connected swinging. At no time does the loaded wrist angle change, the bat follows the shoulder. This is exactly why you don't release the bat head early. This is correct.

RD that apology was for you. Like I said I take this stuff probably too serious but it's because I care. I had no right to say what I did and I know you are only doing this to help others. As a side note if you have the gif of Brooke in black please post it so others can see. Some background on the gif, Teacherman and Tewks gave me some great advice and drills to try with Brooke and it made a tremendous difference.
