I'll add though that I'm not a fan of cheering designed to intimidate or get in the other team's head. Maybe in college softball, where the outcome really matters and it's part of the culture, but in travel, I'm looking to play a certain level of competition for the purpose of development. If it were better to play a weakened opponent, might as well just play down.
+++++ Agree. Few if any girls in our Rec division have older siblings, so our games had been limited to normal cheering during and after the play.

That all changed when we entered the realm of All-Stars / tournament play. Aside from my personal feelings (they drive me crazy, making it a lot harder to communicate with my own players, even when we're the ones batting), I really don't like the personal aspect of many of them. As AC, I 're-directed' several chants - especially at the 8U level, I don't think cheers meant to distract or demean opponents should be considered part of the game. (And never mind the irony of our girls repeating chants that, the week before, many said were "mean" and "not very nice" when directed at them...). I expect dugouts will be a little noisier come fall ball, and have a feeling there will be several 'teachable moments' before the season is over.

To try and return to the original topic - being more vocal on the field would be great at our level - even if they only know how many outs there are, call me a happy coach!

It's always a fine line between chatter and annoyance, lol. So long as they're not simply repeating what the coach just said or snapping at someone on the field who hasn't done anything wrong it's usually fine with me.
Coogans, not a fan of the rattle the pitcher talk either. But it does crack me up when they try it against DD, she is pretty much oblivious to anything being said by the opposing team when she is in the circle. Part of me wants to tell them they're wasting energy but why spoil the fun?
