HS softball does not matter in recruiting, so if my DD had a conflict with the HS coaching staff she would have just played volleyball (GA plays HS softball in the Fall, in the Spring she would have just run track). We would never have considered moving and spending thousands if not 10s of thousands of dollars just to find a HS softball program my DD liked. Get your DD on a good TB ball and make HS an afterthought.

Per my other post, my DD has no interest in playing in college, and she's not nearly at the level where it would be an option anyway. She has never wanted to play TB, she only played rec. She just wants to have fun playing softball. We wouldn't have moved just for softball, but because of school choice here, that's not an issue. Softball certainly wasn't the only consideration in her choice of HS, or even the biggest consideration, but it was a consideration.

I know I'm an outlier here because my DD doesn't play TB and isn't trying to get a scholarship. I know in the elite softball world that HS is pretty irrelevant. I think people here often overlook that most of the kids playing HS sports are like my DD - they aren't at that elite level, but sports are still very important to them. So it's easy to say "it's just HS, if the coach is bad then just don't play" when the girl is playing TB nine months of the year. When the girl's options are the HS team or nothing, it's not so easy.

Since your DD does not play TB and is not interested in playing in college my only recommendation would be to find a HS team that is not full of TB players who are. If she is just playing for the love of the game, find a team where she will get to play vs. being the most competitive.

That's essentially where she is :)

drobenstein- we are fortunate to have a lot of teams that are close for travel ball, people think I'm crazy to drive 24 miles on a freeway for softball because there are plenty of teams that are closer than that, lol. For high school, the school that we will go to isn't a softball powerhouse, but it is an excellent academic school. We could attend a few other schools without moving because of open enrollment (that term doesn't mean literally open enrollment, it's more complicated than you would want to hear but we still could enroll in at least 4-5 other high schools) but it's not worth it. I don't have the time to drive her further than she would be going and the worst case is that she goes to a great school that doesn't have a strong softball team. I can live with that.

That's great that you've found a team that's a good fit for your daughter. Everyone needs to do what is best for their family, and what's "best" is different for everyone.
