Those #s seem right to me, for 10U anyway since that's my only experience. That's just from clocking girls at tournaments I've been to, mostly A, mostly local. I would bump top speed up a few MPH though. There are definitely a decent # of 10U pitchers in the high 40s. I haven't seen them breaking 50 on a regular basis where we've been playing but I have seen a decent number of 48s, including our other main pitcher from our spring team. And I got to watch her pitch this weekend (2nd year 10U now) and I'm pretty sure she was cruising in the low 50s. She's a big girl with a lot of power. Anyway.

Quick question.....Do you all think the numbers below are accurate? They seem to be very much in line IMO but curious if others would agree.

Information has been posted here before and on Coach Marc's website I believe. Anyway, if you had a 14 year old hitting 53-54 consistently (exact reading on both ball coach and bushnell*** No fuzzy math or adding additional mph to what the guns say) would you say she is on track? Yes, I realize the best 14U players in the country throw 78 already but how about a normal player who's parent isn't taking the radar gun and adding 7-8 mph to it?

Age Average Pitching Speed Top Pitching Speed
10u 37-41 MPH 43-46 MPH
12u 44-47 MPH 50-53 MPH
14u 46-49 MPH 52-55 MPH
16u 50-53 MPH 54-57 MPH
18u 53-56 MPH 58-61 MPH
College 59-64 MPH 65-72 MPH

Do you think the numbers above are low, high, or right on?

Thanks!

Honestly, those numbers seem low to me, at least at the level we're playing. We saw zero pitchers throwing 52-55 at 14U in the Sun Classic. I would say the average down there was 58-60.

Maybe at B level or rec, those numbers are accurate. I know a 14U maxing out at 55 would not make a roster here.

And let's not forget being able to field the position defensively. Pitchers that can can help out defensively are a huge asset to the team imo - have seen some great power pitchers in my dd's league that just can't get to the balls quick enough to help out the defense, especially in the short game.

As my DD gets older she is facing more and more players who run a sub 2.6 home to first. A team had better able to field a bunt and get them out, or the first pitch to the next batter they are stealing second and there is not a damn thing your catcher can do about it! A lot of F3 are not very mobile, so F1 needs to be aggressive in fielding bunts on the 1B side of the circle. Having an F2 that aggressively attacks bunts is also a plus!

Thanks for the response and much appreciated! Good to know and look forward to hearing other input on this.

My daughter played in a PGF showcase at the 18u level this past weekend. She cruises around 56 and it seems a good many were hitting probably low 60's. she is playing up so she was definitely slower then a good many. I will say this, speed isn't everything. I saw a lot of fast pitchers at this level getting hit hard and often. A lot of over the fence homeruns. My DD had a lot of success even though she was a little slower because of her movement and placement.

I once was a gullible parent…When parents said their daughter were throwing over 60 mph. So going with what they said and looking at my daughter, I guessed dd was throwing mid 50s. Now I know they were most likely low 50s and dd wasn't even hitting the 50 mark. I am glad I have gotten wiser since then.
This summer my daughter was attending a softball camp with several different colleges. I was standing right behind the coach who had the radar gun out. He was only using the gun when the girl look like she had some speed. All of them were between 53-56 and were High school pitchers. Only 2 girls were faster…1 was hitting 58 and the other was 60-61.

I'm guessing I know who that PC is (very well-known in this area), and to put it bluntly, everybody knows his radar gun reads at least 5-7 MPH fast. It's a great way to make money. There is no way he has 8 freshmen throwing 65+.

But according to your earlier post....the numbers snotbubbles posted should be believable.
