She really doesn't have to tryout for just one position. But if she wants to play one position in particular then you can try and talk to the couch and get her that spot.

I help with tryouts for our local organization and, outside of pitcher and catcher, there are no specific tryouts for positions. All the girls are tested the same.

"Tryouts" for a rec league are very different than TB. For rec leagues, it's usually a matter of assessing skill level to help with building/drafting balanced teams for the sake of good competition. For TB, not every kid may make the team, and sometimes coaches are looking for a specific skill set to compliment their existing players.

What I have seen work best is to be so good at the desired position that you can't be ignored. Getting the opportunity to demonstrate your skills, however, may take some patience and persistence.
