Both my pitcher DDs throw a football very well with a tight spiral.

I knew I couldn't hit that camera.... tried 100 times...
FWIW, last Sunday on the NFL Today show they were showing a clip of Peyton Manning warming up and he was throwing the football underhand just like this. I had never seen a pro quarterback do this before.
Well for once I can't take credit for schooling somebody, I just made this today :{((
Really I'm just trying to show, that the little footballs work too. I can put a better spiral when I have someone catching, and I don't have to chase. Really was trying to hit camera.

Considering DD is a pitcher, I am not sure comparing her to Romo is any favor to him.

For what its worth my daughter has been using a youth size football with good results and improvement in throwing mechanics.

I've started using a Junior size football with all the players that are coming to offseason workouts. I show them Wassermann's waterbottle drill and from there we start off warming up with underhand throws with the football. They couldn't throw a spiral riseball type throw at first but within about half hour they get the hang of it a little.
One of our pitchers had no pop whatsoever when hitting the catcher's mitt. After a few days so far of throwing the riseball type pitch and then throwing a softball she now has the ball popping the mitt. I can see the new interest in her pitching now.
I'm also having them throw the football the normal way. I can see the bad habits slowly being erased. I'm pretty excited about using the football. Especially come November, which is a softball dead period. We can throw footballs to our hearts' content. And also have the excuse for doing so if the players start whining to throw softballs; which I don't believe they will because they seem to have a lot of fun throwing the footballs.
And who knows; we might find a future pitcher!
