Just a short deep pivot point drill fIVE, no lower body work intended. turn the barrel with the body and the hands.

No Mann, there is no top hand release taking place in the young lady's demo. What she is demonstrating eliminates the ability to realize quality barrel speed. The top hand is not being properly loaded for a release to take place. The pivot point needs to include such action, otherwise it is of little value.

This is an example of a “one-arm top-hand throw”, which is completely lacking in the young lady's demonstration below.

Notice how the hands are kept in front of the rear elbow. This is very restrictive.

Compare the young lady's demo to a normal swing in which the top-hand initially resists going forward as the rear elbow ‘becomes’ slotted.

Notice how the one-arm top-hand swing above passes through the RVP Connection Point Position ... as does the swing below.

The swing demonstration by the young lady never passes through this position.

By keeping the top hand back initially, as the backside is rotated (more in a sense of ‘making orange’, not in a sense of rotating the torso as a unit towards the pitcher), the rear elbow ‘becomes’ slotted, and the hand/arm action throws the barrel with the contribution of that backside rotation.

She used to cast out those arms and no matter where the pitch was. Now she has great hands, and can get that inside pitch, and hit it up the middle.

Hands work, pivot point, and i do agree that this 13 year old does not look like Cabrera, i am sure you have some girls that do.

I like the arms unfolding, and i like the throw analogy, but this type drill has proven effective for me, or i would stop using it as an early learning tool.

Drill helps young lady hit better and have some success. Just wanted to not let that get lost in the recent drivel....maybe have a car wash instead and whip towels into the cars???

I would but i would end up washing the cars instead.

The drill worked for deepening the contact point, because the bag is not out front, the feel of contact deep, instead of way out front.

20 minutes later front toss, https://mann.smugmug.com/Other/Bagdrill/i-p6bwwfW/0/O/annacabreanodrag.gif

much better, now lets work on the core.

in the first couple frames she has learned not to lengthen her arms to soon.

Your turn five. You could just tell her to keep her back foot on the ground, and she would hit the ball deeper.

Thank you rdbass, i like the that clip, its constructive, and a good variation

Sure Mann, .... I'll go next.

The team I worked with this fall hit the snot out of the ball. Do you suppose I should attribute that to washing cars?

I pretty sure all those girls could already hit, But would love to see your before and after. Its not that hard to show your interaction with young players, https://mann.smugmug.com/Other/Ashlyn/i-rMcrd2G/0/O/ashspeedyae.gif https://mann.smugmug.com/Other/Bagdrill/i-fxWtnHt/0/X2/IMG_9563small-X2.jpg

That said, i am glad they have a passionate hitting coach.

Are you returning to help them this year?

Come on, don't get all "I'm okay, you're okay" on us.
I just put the Orville Redenbacher in the microwave.

Anytime you want to talk about the core - I am all ears!
