Was wondering if there's a division 1 pitching coach out there that would be willing to let me pick there brain about the whole pitching coach process and how they go about working with there pitchers in season and off season??I'm going into my first year as varsity high school pitching coach and was looking for some insight. Thanks for any positive feedback it is greatly appreciated.Eric

I would highly recommend talking to the pitching coaches of the pitchers on your team. Getting the team pitching coach and the pitchers pitching coaches on the same page is HUGE for the success of the program.

Ditto, what D1 coach Doe says is going to be on the way he/she works his/her players, and he/she has full control of what goes on with those players. On HS team you will have 4 girls with 4 pitching coaches that warm up 4 ways and have 4 different philosophies of how the pitch is delivered.

Keep in mind that most D1 programs do not have a dedicated PC. It is usually someone who "works with the pitchers". And your varsity program is certainly unique and lucky that they have you focusing on it. The needs of a college pitcher and HS pitcher could be quite different. If you are lucky to have a TB stud on your team she may already have a very good PC in which case you certainly want to respect that relationship and get on the same page. Conversely you may have an average TB or Rec pitcher that you need to develop as best you can in a very short period of time. Given the latter you would need to focus on the basics with the end goal of keeping the ball down and off the plate. I have worked with a couple of schools that had nothing and helped convert one of their best athletes into a serviceable pitcher in a matter of weeks so it can be done. That said, do you know what type of hand you have been dealt? If you can provide insight into what you have in terms of talent there are many here that can help you.

Wow!!Thank you so much for the info.So I am fortunate enough to know the hand I am dealt.Pretty much the same girls that were on my travel ball team that I coach. One decent pitcher that I want to improve over the winter and another which needs quite a bit of work.I have been to a bunch of clinics and my daughter is currently in 8th grade so I won't have her until the following year she's a pitcher as well.I have had a couple different pc for her but still have yet to find one that I'm real happy with. She just started with Kristen Rumley from Dartmouth she seems to be good, but I want to put together a solid pitching program that I will be in charge of and want to know what I'm teaching is the right thing. As far as these pitchers having pc's it's been me, but I want to be better it's just really hard because there's so much info out there that contradicts one another. My goal is to teach these girls the utmost proper mechanics hopefully only having to tweak a few things and be able to provide them with great instruction from here forward as far as learning pitches how to pitch certain batters conditioning etc. And anything else you think would be beneficial.Thank you so much for the help!!I'm very excited about this.
