You take local team of whatever skill... pay a large Franchise fee... and ta-da... you're supposed to be awesome, great skill increase and nationally known for recruiting.

... but what actually changed? Nothing. A new coat of paint and some higher costs, but you still have the same players and same coaches doing the same things.

nothing changed except wallets lighter. That's the whole point of the question " Why do it?"

My impression is that what coaches and parents hope/ expect will change is
(1) ability to attract some talent to tryouts that wouldn’t show up otherwise
(2) at older ages maybe a bump in likelihood of getting in a pool with better visibility at showcases
