From the title, I thought that this thread was going in a different direction. I always told my dd that a pitcher who shows emotions most often shows weakness. Why? Because the majority of the time, those emotions erupt after some negative result in a game.
Instead, I thought that this discussion might have been more about:
- Which player in the opposing lineup will not beat me.
- What pitches do I have a lot of faith in during any given game? Do I throw my changeup for a ball and for a strike? Do I take away the inside part of the plate from the hitter?
- When my teammates make that critical error, I can't show emotions and show them that they let me down.
- How many walks are acceptable in this game? Do I pitch around x hitter?
- "Leaders lead" and so, I have to lead my team tonight regardless of outcome.
Well, that kind of stuff. Anyway, carry on.
Those are nice thoughts too but I was more interested in the mindset (not a specific game strategy - just "what is the mind doing while pitching?")
