If a coach calls your kid a "stud"...what does he/she mean by that?

I don't compliment kids on what they have but on how they try for the next level "Good effort tonight Kaity" "Way to hustle on that ground ball" "Great job using what you learned last practice"

There is a girl on our 16u team that is clearly the most talented player in the league but we have to hide her in the field because she has stopped trying because she was always the best player growing up. She is uncoachable and we will be dropping her next year. We are the fifth team she has been on in the last 8 years.

There was a study done. One complimenting kids on their skills and the other on their effort. At the end of the study the effort focused kids well exceeded the other group. I'll search for the study and post it if I find it but it was from a few of years ago.
