One of the big television networks did a news story once upon a time about the "Ninja" ump. He was actually asked to do that by the association in order to "spice up the game" and hopefully increase attendance as well as getting more people interested in actually forming teams and playing. The league/division/ whatever it is, (I can't really remember what it was) was on it's last death throes and was going to have to fold the following year. They credit him with not only bringing it back from the brink of death but it's actually growing by leaps and bounds now. Apparently he's one of the most sought after umpires on the West Coast. The funny thing is, this is not his real personality. He's pretty quiet and introverted but he loves the game so much that he feels he has to do whatever he can to grow it.
