The problem with pitch counts in a HS league is that they can't take into consideration the number of pitches thrown in travel. And travel doesn't know how many pitches are thrown as a guest player...

You can say a random number they came up with. But they need to do something. Kids in HS should not need Tommy John surgery, guys in college shouldn't be on their second one. There is a problem and it's not just mechanics. It's Overuse and year long specialization.

Every kid that pitches my DS has played with in REC and school ball has come up to the coaches and told them how many pitches they have thrown in travel/etc. And how many they have left. They have even asked NOT to pitch in a game so they would have the chance to pitch over the weekend. If a 12yo can keep track of their own #'s it's not that hard.

At least here, you can't play travel and HS at the same time so that's a non-issue. You can't pick up a ball and even think about practice with a travel ball team during HS season without severe consequences...should you get caught.
