Its not really the wrists releasing the barrel its the hands because the bat swivels inside of the hand.

A batter with educated hands is not attempting to sense impact and respond to that impact by following up with an additional force component. Educated hands understand that the barrel is swung/thrown through impact. The ball is simply in the path of the thrown barrel.
